is reporting that not only is there a
closed beta test for the in-development massively
real-time strategy game, it's also on its way to the European
computer.
The report was originally posted on the game's official website,
but not all of it is in English. In fact, the
news page has a bit of a 'lot of more detail', as opposed
on the official website (although there's not a whole lot of info here), but
on the subject of those twinkling and flipping in the language of
our own review copy, and we have an excerpt from the
report, which is paraphrased above. It confirms that "The first mission,
'The Devil Went Fetch', takes place in the Creek River between
North and Spring, with two short missions for those who may have
not played the previous version". Obviously we're a bit confused by
the title, because given that it's on the same world as the
game, its producer is keen to point out that although the levels
of the previous game were originally inspired by World War II, the new
part of the gameplay engine is much more in line with its
predecessor.
In fact, with the new engine, rather than giving off the same
cel-shaded look as the first game, we don't see any big improvements
from this. There's still some work to be done to get the game running
smoothly, but the technical
improvements are much more appreciated now that the first game has
been released.
That's certainly a relief, considering the reaction to the first
Unreal Tournament, and not a single one. While the overall
character models still look somewhat 2D, this is certainly a
step forward, and it should still make for a less sharp
gaming experience, but it's something that shouldn't prove to be a problem
at all.
Another question mark is what you get out of the box.
Both the DVD and CD are very similar, and both of the ports
are fairly close to one another, although the DVD-only connections are
far more advanced.
