Xpand Rally
Xpand Rally
does give you the opportunity to build a racing team out of some of the more than 30
players in the world. As you progress in the game, you will
become more proficient at certain types of vehicles.
But before you can complete the tasks, you must first have to get your
vehicle up and running. The game will have four distinct levels and also
three different vehicle types to select from. You will find that there are different
graphics as well as a few color variations. Some of the models look
like that of a paint job, while others are more metallic and like a
pants mansion.
?
As you
replay the game, you will have a number of friends you can play with.
The game also has an option to take a ride on your
gaming PC by directly installing a second engine or by upgrading the first.
The Windows 95 version will have a handful of
voice-recognition modes, but they are much simpler than the Xbox version. Instead of
having to get up and running with a game by default, you can choose
by going to the game's settings. You will be asked to go to the "Start" menu and select the
performance mode to play. The first thing you'll notice is that you won't have the
same menu as the Xbox version. The game also has an option to turn on
the flashlight, and in a nod to the first Silent Hill,
you will have the option to choose from a variety of options. The flashlight will always be
red on, but in the PS1 version, it will be illuminated in the dark and the lights will
continue to blink when you move your cursor over it.
The "Day 1" mode is used to play through the story. In the
title screen, the Xbox game will give you a helpful brief description of the events.
You will have to start
finishing the game over in some cases, which will require you to play through a
few bonus scenarios. The GameCube version features more than 100
missions and two additional characters.
Graphically,
the game features a look that's quite reminiscent of the Xbox version. The cars
hinted at real life, and the game has a smooth appearance to it. The
game uses the same motion capture technique used in the last game. The car
models are made to look good and have a similar look to the ones used in
the 360 game. You will see helicopters that appear during the game and
some nice trees. The environments are detailed and are very well done.
The music in the game
also makes an appearance, though the tunes are a bit hit and miss.
There is also a
short cutscene that introduces a few new characters. One of them is
girl named Mariachi, who is modeled after a woman from the
Manhattan Museum. He has a very nice Irish accent, which fits the action.
The game is
pretty well done, and is enjoyable for a beat-'em-up, even if the repetitive gameplay
purs the line between being fun and exciting.
Gameplay: 9.5
This game is solid, fun, and offers a good challenge for the arcade.
Graphics: 9.0
The game is clean,
except for the awkward bit where the sprites are low quality. The music is excellent,
though you will certainly want to play the game on high-score leaderboards if
you want to see the high score in-game.
Sound: 9.0
The game's voice acting is handled
like a dramatic rock song, and the sound effects are top notch.
Difficulty: Easy
The game is fairly easy, though it will be interesting to see how far you
can push it. The game can be beaten with some very good combos and
this is an especially good move for those who want to upgrade their score
throughout the game.
Concept: 8.5
The game is presented in a nice
cohesive fashion, yet it does have some flaws.
Overall: 8.0
The gameplay is solid, but the visuals and the
art style are a bit bland.
Multiplayer: 7.0
The single player campaign will be the single player experience of
the game, but the multiplayer game is also fun and addictive. The game's
wide array of levels should appeal to any
player enthusiast. The game's multiplayer mode can be played locally or online, and the options are
interesting.
Overall: 7.0
The game's great graphics are great, though they lack
actual action, as is the gameplay itself. The graphics are good, though the camera
framerate does sometimes get confusing.
Concept: 7.0
The graphics
are good, but the gameplay is underwhelming.
