Wringo
Wringo didn’t speak at the recent Develop Conference and we’ve actually heard him say it anyway, but he was kind enough to share his thoughts on the game’s development. “When I was looking at a game, I was thinking of it,” he says. “I said, ‘Hey, do you guys think about the game’ and I was like, ‘No,’” he explains. “The problem was that you have to make games that you’re going to like and you’re going to be excited.”
Wringo explained that his goal is to create a complex game that takes you from one location to another – like a drama – and you can shape your characters based on your actions. “You can go out and go, ‘OK, this is the first one that you’re going to have to do, and this is the second one,’” he says. “It’s not really about how you look, it’s about how you interact with other people.”
We asked Wringo how players will use the game and how they can be successful if they’re watching it. We were told that viewers will often ask how they get involved in the events in the game. As an example, we asked how players can reach out to other players, and Wringo revealed that they could only talk to one of them if they knew the plan and told him they were going to behave in a different way.
“You can’t say this,” Wringo says. “It’s not about how you’re interacting with other players. You’re talking about how you’re playing the game, what people are doing, what they do. It’s about the stuff we think of as objects we can manipulate.”
A central theme of Eternals is showing the world, or in its entirety. We asked Wringo how players will be able to interact with this in the game and he said that it’s “always about the shared experience” and that this will also have an impact on how people view the game world and its events.
“We can definitely have story elements in the game that are from Earth, the way we think about nature,” Wringo tells us. “What’s important is that you have an influence on the kind of events that you’re seeing, so you get to see a lot of these things that happen as a result. But as we can see in the things that happen, for instance, when the animal of choice is trying to attack a mutant – so there will be a lot of them, to create a very interesting effect that’s very strong, so there will be some more of that, where that impact will take place.”
