A couple of weeks ago, the makers of Llamasoft put together a free demo of their latest title, and it's really good. The people behind the project also claim to be the writers of the movie, so you can read the entire film, for free, to help fill in the gaps.
With the game due out this summer, we thought it was time to get some shooting action and throw it back in the driver's seat. This weekend, however, we'll be doing it out of the window and into the sun, as with all of the best free stuff we've seen. To see how this one compares to the game we're so busy playing it here.
Right now, we're going to have a crack at Arcade action on WiiWare. This one was a faithful conversion of the PC game, but it's time to get involved in Blast. You've been clogging up as many bombs as you can while you also capture and train teams of your own. There are nine levels, and they're a mixture of rock-paper-scissors, basketball, and other different things. I didn't like the gameplay at first, but you'll unlock bonus content to go along with it. It's a nice break from the regular stuff you've seen.
Another game I'm really looking forward to downloading this weekend is Devolver Digital's time-bending puzzler Snipperclips. I won't lie, it's challenging and super fun. It's a sequel to both Snipperclips, so it's definitely worth a look. It's set on a remote island, so you have to move your Snapper in the air as you flip through the various levels to connect lines. It's a very simple concept, but it's executed very well.
This week I plan to play all the games I get to play during a weekend - I didn't know about it so I'll try it out when I get the chance. First up is Superdungeon, the frenetic rogue-lite platformer. You and your pals have to avoid obstacles in the various dungeons to get the best weapons to defeat the dungeon boss, and each level is procedurally generated. The concept is simple - you have to get the best equipment, and the more you get to do so, the higher the multiplier is. Every time you die you get more, so there's an incentive to go back.
I'll also be playing Cuphead, the hectic run 'n' gun game that's something of a cheat, if you don't want it to be. While Cuphead is pretty enjoyable I'll be making the boss of various difficulties a lot more manageable.
I'm trying to get some amount of quality time with Fae Farm, which has you set out on a quest to collect frogs for the residents of a magical town. With frogs they're like we used to see the desert, but now they're all cackling. As you progress, the shopkeepers and the locals are all kind of confused, only for a bunch of goblins to go about their business. It's frustrating and adds a real sense of urgency to the game.
With that said, if you're a completionist and don't want to tackle every level in a quest or collect every single frog to get it, it's an entirely different story. This is another type of Fae Farm, as you complete missions, solve mysteries, fight other frog enemies, and get to know the cast a little better. What you get at the end is an entirely different story. Fae Farm has you play through several different chapters, and while it is still going on, it feels more personal and interesting than what you might expect from an Fae game. Fae Farm was developed by Natsume and is a great addition to the DS, with plenty of excellent storytelling and charm to keep you coming back for more.
The next chapter was announced at the Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase back in April, and it's still going strong, as well as being a bit trickier than the previous two chapters. The standout, of course, is the playable Flora, who will join you on your journey as the big bad of the game, and this will let you swap between Flora and Lola and interact with the various characters throughout the game.
What better game to see on the 3DS than The World Ends With You, a crossover between Square Enix's DS and Wii RPG series, a game that's both visually interesting and actually funny. As you're exploring a city known as Shibuya, you'll discover the many characters from Square Enix's IP, like Akihiko Yoshida, Masaaki Kato, Riki Hasegawa, and Tetsuya Nomura, who are all part of a villainous force that's up to no good. It seems like an interesting setup for the game, so we'll be sure to give it a go sometime in the near future.
