Virtua Tennis

Virtua Tennis might be well over a year old at this point, but it is starting to show its age. Sega Sports has released Virtua Tennis, a game it seems has lost in recent years, and now it's been revived for the Wii and PSP.

"For Sega Sports' long-time fans, this is an opportunity to come back to the game that we knew our fans had, and truly shine some light on what has made Virtua Tennis so special for so many years," said Toshihiro Nagoshi, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Sega. "While Virtua Tennis lacks the kind of depth and complexity that tennis fans have come to expect, the single-player mode, for the first time on a Nintendo system, gives us the freedom to grow the game's life by including a variety of modes to keep players coming back for more."

Virtua Tennis is the most obvious addition to the Wii and PSP release, but we'll have a full review of the game shortly.

"The story mode offers a glimpse into the more exciting and varied tennis gameplay and delivers a much more varied tennis experience than its console counterpart," said John Clark, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Tecmo. "Virtua Tennis: VF3 delivers a fresh approach to the standard tennis video game experience on the Wii console."

The game also includes an array of modes for both single- and multiplayer, including the quick play option that lets players jump into a match, practice using a variety of controls, and play exhibition matches against online opponents.

"This gives players more of an opportunity to customize their character, take on real tennis pros, and jump into a big tournament with an entire family and friends."

"There's nothing like playing tennis with friends and family and having a tennis game with your friends is simply awesome."

While Virtua Tennis: VF3 for the Wii supports up to four players, the console lacks two-player online multiplayer support.

The game will feature 12 different game modes in total and includes a number of classic modes.

One of the highlights is the inclusion of tennis skills for the first time in the series, which allows players to customize their characters with a variety of different clothing and accessories.

VF3: Shotmaker (Wii) is also expected to include online multiplayer, and will be available at launch on the Wii.

Next up is tennis-themed game, Battle & Tennis. This is based on the real-life tennis championships, and is expected to be released at some point during the year.

Battle & Tennis (Wii) is a tennis-themed title for the Wii that will feature the new World Court and Great Britain courts.

The action in Battle & Tennis is fast paced and full of depth. Players will be able to execute traditional tennis moves with the press of a button.

Battle & Tennis features two-player versus and one-on-one multiplayer modes. Players will be able to compete against one another on WiiConnect24, with the ability to work cooperatively with friends and challenge the computer.

Battle & Tennis will be released on September 22 for the Wii.
