TileORama
TileORama definitely has some appeal on the gaming world, and while some say the interface is not as modern as the other styles, there's still a good chance you'll see the appealing simplicity of one of the next-gen puzzle games when played on Xbox Live. Of course, you can't play alone, as your buddy can also drop in on some friends for multiplayer sessions of just one player. And there's no multiplayer function.
The third-person puzzle game features all the usual suspects you'd expect from a classic series like Tetris, but instead you're split into three distinct roles: the brawny lady, the lumbering man, and the jaguar.
If you've been following a puzzle game, then you'll know exactly what to expect here, as it takes place in a 3D environment and is only available on a PC. That said, there are plenty of levels to play through, so no one should be left in the dark. You can switch between these two roles at will, which keeps the game engaging for even the most puzzle-solving player.
Both sets of games are in their own league of their own. The visuals are where the series really shines, with clean, bright colors that lend the game a look that very little more than your average puzzle game. Puzzle adventure games are also great at taking you out of the game by giving you something to go on the whole, whether that's because you're a puzzle game fan or just want something new to play. The audio in the game is quite entertaining, with tunes that match the riddles and backgrounds. Each puzzle has a slightly different tone to it, with multiple themes for your puzzle solving needs, and each track has different themes to choose from. The music in the game is also a really neat touch. You'll hear an assortment of tracks and sound effects depending on the puzzle.
The two games are definitely good as a puzzle game. Both games are really well put together, and each title is a unique experience that sets itself apart from the others. Puzzle Quest may not be the best puzzle game, but the ones that it does have that add a nice layer of polish to it, making it a must-have for puzzle aficionados.
Professor Layton and Pandora's Box is one of the best puzzle games ever made, but it's not quite the level of 2D puzzling that fans of the genre would expect. In fact, it might be the greatest, if not the greatest, puzzle game ever made. It isn't quite the most nuanced, but it's definitely fun, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. At its heart, the puzzles are based around basic logic, with an emphasis on the solving of the right-side problems. The puzzles are very inventive, and you will find yourself having to use multiple solutions to come to the right answer, whether that be from past mistakes or new solutions.
The catch is that the game is over very quickly, which makes it a bit slower than its predecessors. While it's understandable for a game to be rushed through, it can still take some time to get to where you're supposed to be. To be fair, you don't actually have to play the game to enjoy the story, but having to follow along will force you to start the puzzle over and over again.
This game also has a rather dark story to it. While it could have benefitted from a more vivid art style, the game is actually quite dark and drab. It's mostly up to you to find out how the story goes and what's happening, which adds to the discomfort you're getting from playing the game. While it's not scary, it's also not the type of game you'd want to play with children.
To help those who are wondering, most of the time the game's a pretty standard platformer. You'll go through a number of levels, some of which require you to collect certain items to unlock certain bonus areas. The game has some interesting twists to it, which will make it a fun game to play with family and friends. While the game is essentially a standard platformer, the jump is a little more than she'd like. It is a little unfortunate that this game wasn't released in Europe, but perhaps it's time to get the game out there for Europe.
The levels are designed to be difficult and give the player a small amount of time to learn what to expect. You'll start off on a small island and work your way through it. There are a number of obstacles in your way, as well as hazards in addition to hidden areas. If you happen to fall into a fire you'll be automatically thrown into it. The real fun comes from the sheer amount of secret areas. You'll find yourself exploring various alternate worlds and solving different puzzles. The various worlds will have you solving puzzles and collecting coins, which you'll need to unlock more of the game's secrets.
