Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003 on the GameCube and the PlayStation 2 this summer, all but one of the best golf sims has received a new high-resolution graphics engine. EA Sports has tweaked and redone the graphics, and it has added a wealth of graphics options that will make even the most novice golfer face a difficult challenge.
The last time Tiger Woods was shown on the GameCube was in 2002. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2002 on the PS2 and the Xbox were slated to ship with the game. But in 2003, EA Sports made a drop-off in quality of game for the GBA, which was the only version of Tiger Woods not making it onto store shelves. The game's graphics were a new step in the right direction, and the GameCube's frame rate was noticeable.
The graphics are a major improvement over the previous Tiger Woods games. The lighting effects were outstanding, and the games had plenty of different light sources. In one area, the GameCube was able to support the TV sets on the GameCube, which let the game display details such as high winds, lightning, or sizzling winds. The lighting effects were a bit subtle and limited in use. Lighting wasn't quite as impressive as the visuals in the previous versions of Tiger Woods, and the gameplay has been slightly tightened up.
The game's sound was also a little less convincing. It was running only in rough conditions and lacked the support of Dolby Pro Logic II.
Cameloft's game features have been significantly beefed up. The new audio feature has been made even easier to hear. While it doesn't seem to be very clear yet what's going on when the song plays, you can hear several different levels of clarity during the song. As for the extra sound effects, the top tunes have been updated to incorporate more of the new musical cues in the game. While most of the presentation has been touched up, the game's sound has been bumped up to include more atmosphere and a greater sense of volume in the matches. The sound effects were another improvement on the previous game and seem to be more cohesive.
One of the big new additions to Tiger Woods PGA Tour is the introduction of play-by-play. In a tournament setting, it's almost a given that there will be a mini-golf event to play in, but with the game's massive 2.8GB hard drive, it should come in handy for the avid golfers who have also been discerning about their courses. The game will also feature a version of ESPN Videogames: TPC. The game will feature a replay feature that lets you watch your created shots and then rewatch your shots from that specific shot to better assess the specific situation. The highlight of the replay feature, though, will be the presence of golf commentators, who will deliver your recorded golf performances in your created shot.
The minigames will offer a more complete look at what's on offer.
The new career mode will provide a meaty lesson on the workings of golf. It will be up to you to create a successful player in a position to perform the world's most successful off-the-course activities. The more you play, the more courses you'll unlock, and so on. You'll be able to create your own custom player and begin earning skills, equipment, and attributes by earning cash that you use to buy new courses. Once you've completed your amateur career, you can spend your money on new courses and earn even more money to play the game.
Visually, The Tourist of Tiger 07 is the most complete version of Tiger 06's game so far. The game's lighting and shadows are incredibly realistic and its character models are as sharp as ever. There are also a number of new animations used in the course designs and in the options menu. If you choose a course you're into, you'll see water coming out of the water, grass falling, and, of course, grass swaying, all of which are extremely impressive. The only problem is that it looks like the grass is all the better with the crowds. Though there are still some rough edges, it's good to see the developers acknowledging their shortcomings.
The best part about the game's presentation is the career mode. From what we've seen, The Tourist of Tiger 07 seems to be one of the better-looking and more user-friendly entries in EA's golf series. In the current build of the game, you'll have access to a whopping 21 different types of courses in the game, and you'll have to save your custom created courses to the game's memory card for easy access when your computer is online. The course designs are incredibly detailed, featuring the ability to create a fully functional course with no issues, even using the "best" courses you've created. You'll even be able to use some of your custom courses to change the course in the game, which is a nice touch.
