The War of Genesis 3
The War of Genesis 3 release is less than a month away. The new game will debut on PCs and consoles, and it features a few unique innovations from its predecessor, the War of the Roses. In this third game, players will control one of five mighty warriors from the popular Roman role-playing game, which is now out in stores. We recently spent some time with the PlayStation 2 version of the game, and we've come away intrigued by what it has to offer.
Players will now have a roster of 60 characters to choose from, and there are two additional classes for you to choose from. While the first two games offered different skill sets, the third game lets players customize their fighters in a number of different ways. Each of the fighters in the game will have six attributes, and each of them will have four skill trees in total. Also, each character will have his or her own move sets. For example, the barbarian's primary weapon will be a blunt weapon and his primary ability will be an axe that will be given to him by the barbarian himself. On the other hand, the wizard's basic attacks will be a throwing axe and his secondary ability will be a katana that will be given to him by the barbarian. Finally, there will be special abilities that players can unlock by fulfilling certain conditions in the game. For example, the sorcerer can use his chi and summon a demon while wearing the demon's armor and taking on his demonic nature.
Toward the end of the demo, the barbarian character needed to defeat a giant cyclops that was rampaging on the ground, which was indicated by a red circle that protected the demon. Using chi, the barbarian quickly ripped the cyclops's off its tail and threw it at the boss. In addition to combat, players will be able to upgrade their characters' weapons, armor, and weapons. In the demo, the barbarian can only upgrade his weapons and armor--which means he won't be able to use any of his melee weapons and armors. The barbarian also has access to various dragon shouts, which are performed by pressing two buttons at once. During the demo, the barbarian was equipped with a sword and a shield, while the demon chose to use weapons. Each character has a different set of skills and each will also have different areas of attack. In the demo, the barbarian used his bow and arrow and ranged attack. As a result, the barbarian can perform stealth attacks.
One of the major differences between the PC and Xbox versions of Soul Reaver is that the Xbox version will ship with the ability to play through the game as a completely different character. In the demo, the barbarian was a child with an extremely small feline-like skin and a backpack full of magical spells, and in the game, he was the only character capable of summoning a large number of small and large creatures. He could then have one of four different warrior classes, but these classes were not playable. In the full version of the game, all characters will have the same abilities as the PC and Xbox versions. When playing on the Xbox version, you can switch to a second controller and press the directional pad on the Xbox controller to switch from the first controller to the second. In the PC version, the left analog stick will use the analog stick and the right stick to move the camera around. To switch from the console controller to the mouse and keyboard, you must click on the mouse with the left mouse button and the right stick to move your character around. Once you have a weapon that has an attack button, you can use the left analog stick to select an attack. When the melee button is pressed, you can move the character around to attack.
While the combat system in the PC version of the game was designed for both real-time strategy and action role-playing games, Lionhead is attempting to incorporate both systems. In the PC version, you will be able to use three different attack buttons, but while you'll only be able to use two different attacks per round, you will be able to switch between your melee attacks by pressing the right mouse button and the left mouse button. For example, if you have to attack your enemy from behind with a melee weapon, you can tap the left mouse button to use the right mouse button to attack.
In addition to a number of different vehicles and equipment, Lionhead is making a point of stressing the importance of squad-based combat in the PC version. The team is particularly proud of the fact that you'll be able to choose any of the four key members of the squad as you command them in battle, including the three soldiers, the warrior, the ranger, and the archer. As in most games, you'll need to manage your squads by selecting them from your group, so you won't have to worry about each of them having a role in combat.
