The Political Machine
The Political Machine: The Game sees you assuming the role of the right-hand parent of a small Welsh Nation who in fact runs a business. It's set up by the University of Manchester, where one of your families starts up a new company, where you'll see how the world works. We're promised a different spin on a genre, and a more political influence and message, the setting seems to be much less cynical than the one you're used to.
It's as we said at the time: 'We don't mean in that way by humour, but with moral values, rather the main focus of it's social critique of each country's values'. It's a conflict you have to figure out, and the game is intended to make you feel like you're in a position of power.
The problem is that you're looking at the world in a way that's largely inconsequential. You're talking about humanity and political power, but you're given a window to look at what this nation is like. You don't have anyone on the opposite side, you have to use one of the most useful power systems, and you're in the thick of it. There are different points where the situation could come across that you simply can't follow; instead, the game forces you to decide what you want to say to this world, and what you really need to say to each one.
If you go into the game with all these topics mixed up in the mix, you'll see quite a bit of the writing on offer here. There are factions you can have on one side, but it's not always clear what you'll actually be saying. To make it clear, while you're trying to figure out what to say to each of the groups, the game lets you choose either reaction to it, your response to it, or whether you'll agree to its answer. There are also multiple endings depending on the actions you make.
The AI is also great, and this is where the first problem arises. Some of the NPCs are cute and agreeable to certain situations, but others behave a little dumb. It's something to be mindful of, but after you've figured out how to respond to a group that's moving around, the game lets you know which one you should respond to. We're not talking the people you'll get to interact with, but what happens if the character chooses not to respond to your own response, or vice versa? These are three of the things we've noticed on both sides.
The fast-paced combat system lets you target specific enemies.
The action in Fable is in real time, and it looks great. Everything from your attacks to the way your items are highlighted are in real time. The whole thing is just quick to respond to. This kind of action doesn't get old when you see your opponent crouching down from a swing of the sword. A simple double-tap or square executes a successful thrust, while a swipe of the Wii Remote performs a leaping lunge, one of the most responsive controls we've used.
Our only complaint with Fable is that the game isn't quite as deep as some of the other console RPGs, but that shouldn't stop us from giving it a look. If you're a fan of RPGs, you'll probably enjoy this game more than most. In addition, it looks like we're getting some good downloadable content for Fable. Though we wouldn't say nothing of Fable: Coloring Book, the GBA download, which will include the same content, comes with a new hero in Coloring Book 2.
Nintendo has been trying to figure out a new storyline for the console version of the game, and they have come up with some interesting ideas for the evil witch.
The game is running on the GBA using a modified version of the engine the original was using. The result is an in-depth storyline that follows the adventures of the heroic hero and his allies. While the story in Coloring Book 2 might not be as complex as the one in the original, it has a nice mix of classic RPG elements and cool twists.
On the GBA, the game offers two new modes of play: adventure and capture. Adventure is a collection of dungeons to explore, and this time, you'll be able to play through the entire game in a series of areas. You'll be able to search the dungeons by selecting your hero and choosing his or her story, but you'll also be able to interact with the 3D character models, such as the hero himself. Adventure mode is where you'll play through the adventure, and it features a slightly different story depending on which hero you pick. The game takes place in a randomly generated dungeon and features six dungeons, each of which will have a boss. You'll have a number of tasks to complete on each map. For example, you'll need to hunt down a treasure chest and "toss" a piece of meat to open it, which you'll then open up to gain access to a subquest that features a higher-level boss.
