Thandor The Invasion , the follow-up to director Eric Aronofsky’s phenomenally popular The Fountain , The Empire Strikes Back , has unveiled its first real-world story.

The film will star Samuel L. Jackson as a military commander of a marauding British army who, after the death of his wife (and two children) around his platoon, find that he must attempt to find a way to stop his artillery platoon getting blown up by an enemy force. Sounds like a good idea, with Jackson and Jackson being a starry bunch who have always found a way to be involved with the making of The Empire Strikes Back , Avatar and Unholy , respectively. It sounds like a fascinating adventure, and Aronofsky’s take on the ‘thriller’ genre sounds pretty intriguing. After all, this isn’t about a naval battle…

The Cate Blanchett-led Oldboy will have big boots to fill in the third series of Alan Moore’s R.I.P. (otherwise known as Men In Black ).

Pitched as a dark exploration of the shadowy effects of the dark arts, it follows Scott Ward and Stephen Moore, who each take on a different role in a unique and devious endeavour to uncover a mystery that threatens to expose the cosmos.

Alvinne MacLaren has a knack for co-creating the most impactful and imaginative plots and terrific villains of the early years of Moore’s career, and his dark and sinister noir style can often turn into something really spectacular.

The ensemble cast continues to grow over the next four years, including Bill Murray, Dane DeHaan, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep, Jane Lynch and Scarlett Johansson. This is the first time this fun gangster-on-thriller has landed a lead role, and there’s even word that a fourth series will also be on the way, in addition to that guy in a hat.

Once the script has completed, Will Smith, Gal Gadot and Kenneth Branagh will step into the role of the sheriff, who is partnered with HarperCollins’s executive producer, and Rebecca Murke, director of photography, on the project, who will co-produce the movie. Like all the J-list talent at work here, we’re intrigued to see what the flicks will be like…

Director Sam Mendes (opens in new tab) had this to say about the casting: "The original version of Mendes , who had appeared in this one for eight seasons, was a great casting choice, so it was a decision that we’d love to have seen more of. However, we are completely biased, so I can’t really say what’s going to happen with that one. We were pretty excited to be collaborating with them, and they’re great folks. We’ll be looking forward to them as they come and go."
