Terminator Salvation

Terminator Salvation (1984) is still en route to theaters in a couple of months, but producer Steven Spielberg has had some fairly positive word on the project.

Terminator Salvation is set to play like a more action-packed movie. The film will follow a somewhat slow-moving but determined John Connor who has to make ends meet to take down the robot menace.

“We don’t want to have this kind of hardcore metal and light action film that we don’t want to have,” Spielberg told Gamespot . “I would say it’s definitely closer to the action and action feel of the original movie.”

The director, set to write and direct the film, explained that “this will give [the franchise] the edge that we want, but it’s going to have to be quite exciting for us to do the story justice.”

Excited for the film? Then what did you think?

“I actually love the movie,” Spielberg revealed. “The thing is, this is a cinematic experience, but you can do things differently, you can do things much more intelligently, you can do things that you couldn’t do in the past. So you’re going to have the kind of magic that’s not yet seen in that kind of movie.”

“That’s a little bit like the Holy Grail. It’s going to be dark and dirty and cold and dark and strange and dangerous,” Spielberg continued. “And in fact, in some scenes it’s going to be quite difficult for the actors to do what they’re doing. So in that sense, I think, it’s going to be very exciting for us to do that.”

To move the story further, Spielberg also went on to explain that while he’s “so busy trying to finish the script,” it’s going to take some time before we see a “really good one” of them.

When asked if a Spielberg-directed adventure might be the story of his former best friend, Tom Cruise, Spielberg suggested that it’s going to be a little more unusual, saying: “It’s like I’ve always been so busy trying to finish the script. I feel like I’ve been approached to do a movie in a less-than-elegant way, or, I guess I’m telling people I’ve never seen it.”

The biggest hurdle to Spielberg’s experience with movies of the past is that they feel like they’re too stylized. There’s very little actual drama, with the movie sometimes focusing on the little bits of the real story that the audience is meant to experience. They often feel like something out of Spielberg’s personal memories.

The danger with movie-going is that those who don’t see Spielberg’s films as engaging are likely to find their work about what they’re looking for. And he’s been encouraging people to see this through. The Star Wars movies were all about real-world problems. The Last Jedi tried to do the opposite, with Rey’s origin story (at least in the sense that it’s a more playful affair than The Force Awakens), but there’s little more of an explanation for the murder of a ship. The first few minutes of the movie feel like real footage from Spielberg’s films, with its main characters making their living shooting their own stuff.

A giant box office bomb, critics and audiences alike at large have labeled A Quiet Place a mess. It’s a walking story that doesn’t care about the heroes or the story’s main character. It just has a very bad ending. It’s a movie that clearly refuses to be seen as a movie that doesn’t fully deliver on its message. But when the credits roll, it’s a movie that almost always has something to say.

The rest of the A Quiet Place movie goes for far too dark, leaning more into the psychological horror aspect of the story than the dark theme. The story follows in the footsteps of the beloved classic found footage anthology movies like Paranormal Activity and H.P. Lovecraft, but the big twist comes with the lead characters’ personalities (“normal”) and the monsters that can appear on the outside of the box.

The ending leaves a lot of questions, and a lot of the answers are unclear. Fans are still excited to see more of the movie, but what little excitement there is in seeing a major twist like this. The best horror movies in the past decade had a handful of endings, but they felt somewhat predictable.
