SpaceStation Sim
SpaceStation Sim is one of the most exciting new titles to emerge from Strategy First's GT Interactive. The game is a stand-alone expansion for the 1997 title. This expansion lets you start a new game and move your sim's sim to space to help Earth's greatest warriors--and other sims--race off into space and put a dent in their favorite space carriers. Your sims are then transported to their own space stations, such as their planets, for a variety of scenarios and challenges. But you won't be playing through any of the episodes, so it will be the same story.
For those who don't know, SpaceStation Sim is a classic arcade space combat game. Players compete in missions to defeat the criminal empire and in turn fight a variety of baddies in an area similar to Space PlayStation Sim's alien world. After a tutorial, each stage is cleared and you start off in a spaceship and are expected to fly your sim to the nearest landing zone to pick up the nearest target. After that, you'll see your sim running and doing missions for various characters in your empire. After the tutorial, you'll be given a brief rundown of the game's controls, which include the all-important sim's control scheme. The left analog stick controls your sim's movement and the triggers are used to move your sims around the level.
You'll want to keep an eye on your sim's and their needs.
The game's objectives will consist of landing on specific planets and collecting various parts of a planet. Before a mission, you'll be placed into a ship, and the mission will be completed automatically. You'll receive a notification as you begin your mission and can send out your sim to specific locations, such as asteroids, to receive repairs. If you collect enough parts, your sim will be granted the opportunity to use them. If you complete a mission, you'll receive another notification, and if you collect all of the parts, you'll be able to move to another planet for a quick break in progress. While you won't be able to get away with dropping everything, you'll still have the option to return to a planet that's been crafted specifically for the mission.
The game's basic gameplay consists of traveling to different planets, collecting items, and destroying enemies. The missions will revolve around killing enemies, collecting collectible items, and finding power-ups to further enhance your character. As you progress, you'll learn more about each planet. For example, one mission requires you to collect 50 black pieces of rock and fly it to a nearby planet, and the next will require you to collect 10 black pieces of rock and drive it to an enemy planet. These missions can be taken on either on foot or with your sim. While the game does have a cartoon look to it, there are still some design decisions to the game that we've noticed. For instance, when using your sim, you can now take it to other planets, thus forcing the level of destruction your sim can unleash. The only issue we had was when the black pieces had to be shot down, which seemed to make it impossible for our sim to fly even if you got them.
Visually, the game looks nice. There are still some technical issues in place but the game looks and runs very well. The engine is also easy on the eyes, and you can still see your sims doing the same action, which is a nice touch. When you're trying to catch a sim you can put his or her emotion meter in the corner of the screen to get a clear look at the emotion on the screen. If your sim's emotions get down and up, you can press a button to automatically keep track of how your sim reacts. As you're taking on tasks in the game, you'll be able to put that meter in the corner of the screen so you can see what's happening in real time.
Overall, The Sims Bustin' Out looks and feels very polished. The game features more than 30 different buildings and venues and a total of 18 different-style characters with unique personalities. It looks great, and the soundtrack is also well done. The only issue with the game is that it's not exactly what you'd expect from a game like The Sims, but the huge variety of ambient sounds is a nice touch.
Once you've settled on your sims' wishes, you'll be able to choose a variety of different career paths from your character. From those you choose, you'll be able to control every aspect of your sims' personality. You'll be able to see how they react to you based on your actions, which range from your relationship to their thoughts on everything you do.
Once you've settled on your sims' wishes, you'll be able to assign them various tasks to perform, which will improve their skills and unlock new objects and clothing. As you accomplish tasks, your sims will earn a certain number of points, which they can use to unlock new objects, clothing, and objects.
