Solar Wars
Solar Wars: My Ballad of the Arcad of the Void is a strategy game with an emphasis on the advancement of technology in the solar system. From the opening of the game, you and your flying posse begin a frantic interstellar battle against the heavy-tech forces of the Earth, and the only hope for survival is a magical floating orb known as the Solar System. The combination of both technologies, the Zara Zara, and the lunar system, and the solar system's hostile atmosphere, make Solar Wars an experience that will tug on your heartstrings. The game is already available in some beta forms, but the beta version we have received should give you a better idea of what to expect.
The first level of the game is more of an aesthetic take on the outer world of A.R.S.E. No longer is the zara. Zara races are no longer plagued by hostile factions of rogue humans with nothing but a boot to show for it. The mysterious corporate-style society of Far'Lace and Spica are all but gone, but there are plans to move away from the setting for a long time, and you're now in a fierce race of alien slavers. The game is also about scavenging for new weapons, items, and more of the ever-powerful weapons you'll be using to conquer the Solar system. Unfortunately, Zara races are often taken by civil war, resulting in poor performance for the factions, and the race is in shambles. This is in part due to the fact that, even though you're new to the universe, you can't immediately get a sense of how much these living beings will have changed since you last had a chance to play. It's understandable, then, that you'd have to rethink what the whole game will be about.
Combat in Zara will focus more on a real-time system, but it will also allow you to work your way up the tech tree. You'll start with only a modest number of weapons, and you'll have to level them up to gain access to more powerful ones. However, you'll also be able to pick up better abilities and enhancements through the use of research terminals scattered throughout the solar system. You'll also be able to research new equipment, as well as other items and salvage with your spacecraft. You'll also be able to create armor for your own characters. When the planet has been terraformed and all resources have been gathered, you'll have access to new character classes and races that will come with unique attributes and perks. Of course, you'll also have to face the dangers of space and be at the mercy of whatever unpredictable threats have arisen from your space colonization.
The game's six unique character classes, such as the dogfighter, rocket scientist, behemoth, commando, alien science officer, combat engineer, and hacker, will also have their own unique abilities and powers. The engineer will let you build three different spacecraft--the flying carrier, a force combat vessel, and the battlecruiser--and you'll be able to upgrade its equipment and systems with as you progress through the game. The combat ship will let you explore asteroid fields and space stations, though in most areas you'll be able to go about your business without really entering the capital ships. You'll also be able to call in probes and destroy enemy ships in battle.
There will also be an RPG-like leveling system that will let you upgrade your ship's abilities and statistics. You'll also be able to upgrade your ship's exterior hull and armor with new implants and weapons. You'll even be able to create your own ship's appearance by choosing a name, the design of your ship, and you'll be able to choose your gender and voice. In addition, you'll be able to choose from some of the more detailed characters you've seen in other space games, as well as use any number of interesting attacks or special attacks you've unlocked.
The graphics engine is being used in a number of ways. The game is being built with high-polygon models and runs at a smooth 60 frames per second. The ship models, which were all hand-painted, are looking quite good and have plenty of detail to them. The environments we saw were all very nicely detailed and sport an impressive amount of depth. The game's environments included some rich visuals that featured impressive effects like weather, wind, and reflection. You'll see a good deal of detail on the graphics engine as you fight and explore, which is one of the game's most impressive features. The particle effects used to add to the visuals will also be in full effect during battle. The game's characters will be able to move realistically and interact with each other. As for the game's voice work, you'll hear a good deal of lip-synching from the TV speakers. In addition, the voice work for the various characters will be well done.
