Simon The Sorcerer 3D

The

official

Simon

the Sorcerer 3D Movie

for the Sony PlayStation (that's a bit like Sonic, except we don't

have a mascot to speak of) is a 3D adventure game based on the

successful Sorcerer

in college. The game, originally developed by Crystal Dynamics

developer Simon Interactive, puts players in the role of a

wizard in the midst of a war between clans. The

game is being published by Big

Mind, but a bit strange that it has been adapted for

Simon The Sorcerer 3D

Sony's GameCube.

Although it looks a little like a PS2 conversion of last year's

Tomb Raider (with no sign of the movie's survival story, no

actual gameplay on offer), the graphics are pretty good and the action

and spell effects are pretty real. We can't say whether this will actually

appeal to those who are already loyal to the series, but it

would certainly make a good Christmas gift.

Although there is nothing too special about the Cube version, a

few other features can be expected from this version. Perhaps the

best part of this is the online play - PS2 users will

be able to enjoy party play over the Internet as well as

via LAN support for up to 16 players. We've not seen the latest

screenshots of the game, but considering how little of this

has been seen in the past, it would be nice to see the focus on

two players battling it out over the Internet.

Meanwhile, Gameplay is still to be announced. Last year we had

seen a somewhat ropey release date on Gameplay to coincide with E3, but

yesterday we were told to expect some surprises. Apparently there will be two

games on display at the upcoming QuakeCon, and we expect to see

more of them soon.

According to the

latest

press release, Gameplay is currently planning to unveil both of

the games at the event on August 21st in Mesquite, Mesquite

Mesquite Convention Center. Mesquite is currently accepting applicants

for the invite-only competition, and will be releasing a large

lineup of games during the competition in October. The real question is how

the games are going to be made and how they will be sold, and

exactly what will the games be? Will the titles look like they did

when they were first announced? Will it be 3D graphics? Will

they be turn-based? Will they be so interesting and fully featured? It

seems there will be a lot to keep an eye on, and the selection of

games is quite varied.
