Silent Hunter 2

news 81 0

Silent Hunter 2 (PS) finally hit the US, and it's only now that its developer, Treasure, has been given a closer look at its sequel.

The first game appeared on the Japanese Dreamcast (we've been hearing about its plans since the news was confirmed by the Japanese game site, Midmap).

The sequel features all-new and innovative gameplay elements, like real-time camera control and a new main character named Jen (now using an American moniker), who will attempt to investigate a series of ancient diabolical computer pulses and his mysterious death.

Tear down into the game's world of town, you'll find a variety of locations to explore, including forests, deserts, caverns, and ancient ruins. An "entire" rating was given for the game by the NDA and this rating could indicate that the game will be released in the US before the end of the year.

We've yet to hear a full game in the West, but that seems unlikely considering the game's relative obscurity at the moment. It was revealed recently that 2K Marin was working on a third-person shooter in which you played a member of the Navy SEAL team.

We've also been provided with new gameplay details and information on the game's single-player campaign. We understand that you'll play through the game's events as you're sent on a mission to recover a satellite that the United States has been investigating for centuries. One intriguing aspect of the game is the fact that while missions are won in abundance, they may not actually play out the same. Instead, you'll need to perform a series of elaborate physical tasks in order to advance to your next objective. For example, if you manage to complete one of the many missions set across the US, then you'll be sent off to recover it, and you'll be given a chance to play through the last mission of the game with some other objectives thrown in for good measure.

It's been a while since we last saw the game, but at this point, there's still a sense of awe that the developer has managed to cram into the game. The impressive physics engine gives the game a feel that suits its genre, and the graphics and environments we've seen so far are as impressive as ever. From the very beginning, it seems as though the team is looking to refine the gameplay and graphics to quite a bit more variety. Even in its early state, the game seems to have its work cut out, though it looks like the game will feature some substantial additions when it finally ships later this month.

As far as gameplay goes, THUG is shaping up to be a fine example of what a home console game should be. The core gameplay and core mechanics seem to fit the bill, and the team has worked to incorporate some of the refinements that the original game received. While you'll find a solid amount of content in the game, THUG still has a few rough edges that can be ironed out before it's done. The developer has chosen to place some of the refinements that have been made to the formula in place, while keeping the overall package a step above the original game. For instance, the sequel's graphics are being tweaked to help bring them more in line with the standard console gameplay. The environments have gotten a bit more color, as well, to give the game a more colorful appearance. As far as gameplay goes, THUG seems to be a solid mix of solid old-school beat-em-ups, old-school brawling, and a lot of "realism." The gameplay stays fairly solid, and it offers a mix of combo-driven gameplay and an assortment of options to play. You'll find a good mix of original elements, like light and heavy attacks, brawling, and wrestling. You'll find a healthy assortment of game modes to choose from, which are broken up into simple arcade modes that feature a unique story and unique fighting modes. The game's fighting system remains fairly faithful to the original while still offering a surprising amount of depth.
