Saddle up with Pippa Funnell
Saddle up with Pippa Funnell for the new 'racing' title Neon Joystick Racing, which features Pippa's iconic rapping engine.
The cartoon arcade racer allows players to get behind the wheel of an all-new 'racing platform' called Neon Joystick Racing. The game allows up to three players to race simultaneously online or in split-screen local co-op.
As you might expect from a shiny, very fast mobile title, players will have to raise and lower the speed to become victorious, whilst avoiding nasty hazards such as flames and pesky power-ups.
"Saddle up with our expert team to create the ultimate racing game for our kids and teens," says Shane Brick, head of development at SEGA's Visual Concepts. "The game features stunning visuals and adrenalin-boosting racing action with the very rare incorporation of the award winning visual technology."
This isn't the first time we've seen Pocket Gamer chatty little racers in action. Earlier this year, this year, gamers got their first look at Twisted Metal: Black. It's shaping up to be a super-stealthy (and first-person) next-gen iteration of the PS3 game, with the gameplay, visuals and controls designed to bring the action into the light.
The most anticipated next-gen racer is EA Sports' and Sony's Fast & Furious: Showdown, a spin-off from the more famous series, The Fast and the Furious, which will give its game a full season of drivable cars. The game will include race-throughs, arenas, and new gameplay modes (movie-style stunt mode), including a traditional career mode, a mission mode, and a multiplayer mode for up to four players.
Shaun McInnis of the Glu Mobile team got a first glimpse at this week's new game, FIFA 08. As you may have guessed from the game's title, FIFA 08 will include a massive career mode, where you'll be able to take control of any player on any team. The game will also feature an updated player statistic tracking system, which will provide a personalized look at your performance on a team. The game will also feature a much-requested "call me back" feature, which will automatically select players from your roster and highlight them in your profile. The recruiting process will also be a new addition, in that you'll be able to designate a person to be a manager at any given time. You'll also be able to set specific jobs for your assistant, such as training in gym, stumping, and training for a certain team. You'll also be able to create your own club and play around with the star players in your team.
Last year's FIFA Soccer 08 will feature a new FIFA-style control scheme, although there will be a new face-off feature as well. You'll be able to manually control your players' direction of focus in the pitch by simply pressing a direction on the left analog stick. A quick flick of the stick will give you control of the center of your pitch, which is handy when you're trying to avoid defenders and move to the other side of the field. Passing will also work a bit differently in FIFA 08, with more accuracy. The game's passing system is being overhauled for FIFA 08, so you'll be able to call in the nearest goal and choose which button press will best serve the goals on the field. The nifty new passing system is similar to that of the swing stick in NBA Live 08, though it's been tweaked in a few other ways to make the experience a bit more enjoyable. For example, instead of throwing the ball to the front of the net, FIFA 08's passing system will automatically point the ball to your receiver.
If you're tired of the feeling of blocking, you can take the new tackling system in FIFA 08.
Another new addition to the FIFA franchise, which is currently being created internally, is the ball-handling. In previous FIFA games, you could aim the ball with the left analog stick, then with the right stick, aim the ball precisely and try to hit the ball into a goal. In FIFA 08, you'll now be able to create the perfect ball handler with just a few clicks of the stick. We've seen a couple of examples in which we managed to manually position the ball before hitting the ball; this time, we opted to position the ball in front of the front of the defender closest to the basket. After a few practice plays, we were finally able to put the ball down as we called, then hit the right analog stick again for some easy trick shots. As you can imagine, the more tricks you learn, the better your chances of scoring goals. As you're attempting to hit the ball from behind, your goal will be to keep the ball and keep the ball in your possession.
