Rocko Quest
Rocko Quest was released on the Apple II and Nintendo Game Boy Advance and its fast-paced action/RPG gameplay was well received by critics and consumers alike. Developer VIS Entertainment took the concepts of the coin-op B-Movie and gave it a colorful and memorable atmosphere and expanded on them with the new Action and Adventure modes. Now, in Rocko Quest, the action moves much more like a puzzle game, albeit one that changes in different ways and re-creates an experience that is just a little bit different. We've already gone ahead and written a short feature detailing how the game will play.
You'll find two main game modes in Rocko Quest. The first is Story Mode, which lets you pick one of four characters from the series: Beardo, Gus, Beck, and the day-to-day life of Beat. The second mode, Action Mode, lets you play through each character's storyline or choose a favorite from all the games. You'll be able to use the different characters and have the ability to send you on missions as well. Once you have all these modes, you can go through each character's story with the goal of getting to Beat. You'll find a variety of different missions that are laid out in the game's various menus. As you complete them, you'll earn experience that will increase your stats and, occasionally, you'll also be able to gain new songs by buying them with money you earn during your travels. You'll be able to go through your single-player career on the fly as Beat, whose mission is to beat Rocko, or simply use Beat's in-game guitar as a weapon in Beat's ring. Beat's victory on the beach will unlock a special stage and then use the weapon in the ring to his or her advantage.
The various venues you'll be able to unlock in the game will include gym, hotel, pirate hideout, pirate hideout, office, and gladiator arena. When you choose to play the multiplayer game, you'll be able to enter a separate arcade and race to beat your own score. You'll also be able to engage in table tennis, time attack, and various mini-games that will offer unique features for you to enjoy. The graphics in the game are looking quite sharp, although we were told the game will only look good on the Xbox. The stadiums in the game, which feature detailed structures, are nicely modeled and feature a good amount of detail. The game's frame rate is slated to run at a stable 60 frames per second.
The audio in the game is shaping up quite well, thanks to Dolby Pro Logic II's Dolby Pro Logic II. The soundtrack features an eclectic mix of tunes that feature a decent variety and, of course, a variety of ambient noise. The game's audio engine is shaping up quite well, thanks to a solid soundtrack and some very impressive visuals. You'll hear some recognizable grunts, as well as a number of familiar tunes that, in their own way, will be complemented by more-intense and atmospheric music that will shake things up.
Control in the game is responsive and stays true to the Jak and Daxter gameplay mechanics. You'll move the D pad with the left analog stick and use the triggers to shoot. You'll have access to the two face buttons, which are used to move around and jump. The X button will serve as a basic attack and the circle button will serve as a primary attack. You'll also have access to your assorted items and special abilities, such as a grappling hook that lets you reach higher ledges. You'll also have the ability to swap between the various powers as you play. The D pad will serve as your standard control scheme and will let you toggle between the various power sets. The square button will serve as a context-sensitive action button that will let you activate whichever you'd like and will call up an inventory of items. The square button will let you interact with certain items in the game, such as turrets, switches, switches, and collectibles. The triangle button will let you call up a briefcase, which will serve as a sort of mana shield or a teleport. The square button will let you perform your primary attack. The Y button will let you perform your secondary attack. The R button will let you perform an offensive or defensive action. The X button will let you perform your primary attack. The circle button will let you block, while the square button lets you block. Finally, the square button lets you perform a superspeed attack that will let you access certain areas of the environment. While these powers seem pretty basic at the beginning of the game, as you progress through the game, you'll eventually find them to be a lot more useful. Besides the standard array of offensive and defensive abilities that you'll learn as you progress through the game, the ability to perform a superspeed attack and a number of defensive actions, will let you be a lot more versatile in combat than you might be used to.
