RichMan 5.20 looks a lot like Big Max , except this time it’s actually as light as a feather.

“Working in RichLife has taken some time,” explains RichMan, who’s also the sole designer. “They’ve had a lot of time to tweak their code to feel like a true 3D real-time 3D game.”

RichMan and his team haven’t forgotten about the future of gaming though. “The most important thing is the way that RichTran really shines and is getting to grips with the next major step in the ever-evolving 3D space,” says RichMan.

RichMan is the first videogame programmer to commit to a 3D gaming model. His work in this category was created by the Sheffield-based company Two Doctor Strange. This all seemed to encourage RichMan to work on a whole lot of 3D games.

RichMan didn’t have the guts to carry the development of a 3D model in his first professional position, but the pressure to step up as a gamer and prove himself with more games, the skills and skill required to make a 3D videogame.

RichMan isn’t a big gamer himself, but his skills are where he really shines. “Rich and I spent a long time working on Spy Hunter 3D,” says RichMan. “This game was very advanced, it was the first 3D shooter, it was just so smooth and flexible.”

The concept was about introducing the player to a 3D world. “You could go into a level and look at things like buildings, see houses, see things, and you could do things in 3D. It was the first 3D shooting game you ever saw,” he says.

“It was pretty much a set-up. You could walk around and look at things and you could walk around, and it was pretty much the same thing. It wasn’t the same thing, it was like a set-up.”

RichMan moved into the game with quite a bit of help from fellow Naughty Dog alumni, Charlie Wells, Sam Pettinati and John Gonzalez.

“The first thing was understanding the art direction, which was also really nice because it was our first game,” Simmons tells us. “What we’re trying to do is create a game that is kind of like Uncharted in 3D, which is something we’ve done before.”

RichMan has been at Naughty Dog for 20 years. For the past couple of years, he’s been working with 3D gaming development studios on the Uncharted series and the upcoming The Last of Us: Part 2.

“It’s been around for a while, so it was a pretty good process. We’re very good at the art style, which we’ve kind of been doing for a while, but we’re really happy with how it turned out,” says Wells. “It was a really good process and it’s something that we’re working really hard on,” adds Neil Druckmann. “We’ve got this incredible team that is really very passionate about this stuff. It’s also been around for 20 years, so we’re really happy with the way we turned it out.”

With Uncharted 4’s long and fairly divisive ending (referring to the ending of Uncharted 3) finally happening, it’s about time it returned to where it all began. It sounds like Naughty Dog was pretty aware of its fanbase when it came to The Last of Us, with Druckmann saying, “I can’t wait for people to play The Last of Us 2. I think that it’s going to be a great game, so if you’re an Uncharted fan, it’s going to be a great game. I love playing it, and I think we’ve just been doing our best.”

For those interested in the details, you can read our in-depth interview with Druckmann right here. We also discussed how he felt about what we considered to be the most powerful character in the series so far.
