Red Ace
Red Ace is a point-and-click adventure set in the tranquil confines of Mount Vesuvius, an island nation that has sprung up out of nowhere, which was once a place where human civilisation was threatened with endless sea life. There are about 100 small islands with hidden items, puzzles, fishing and chatting with people and natives who were lost in the sky.
While the game is an adventure, its genre is more oriented towards puzzle solving than exploration, with plenty of challenges in the way of mysteries. Instead of fighting monsters, you are asked to discover clues about the island and its inhabitants and often of different elements such as trees and meteorites. You find a large telescope that you can see at the top of the screen and use to study the environment, which in turn allows you to create a handy reference point to help you collect the correct information.
Each island has a number of secrets, such as a group of islands that have their own background and inhabitants, as well as some environmental clues. You can also find creatures that you can chat with on a nearby island. The atmosphere of the island is set up around the island, which is made up of different objects that need to be observed and collected. Some creatures can be spotted in different places, and some can even be interacted with by other beings. When using a microphone, for example, you can instruct the critter to answer a question with his or her own voice and then send it to the various creatures residing there. The effects of your voice are entirely dependent on the kind of events you're seeing, and you'll receive the benefit of this if you let them go.
There are a total of six collectable items, some of which can be found by visiting the different floating islands in the game. When you are prompted for your request, you'll be treated to a pop-up menu that includes text that's narrated by an old man who asks for your help in figuring out what he needs. You can also get stuck in with the little monkeys who are in their jungle cave when you've gotten too close.
The four different animals available to you include the dung beetle, rhino, crocodile, and rhino. You'll be able to name them after them as you play the game, so you'll be able to tell the right way to say your intentions. In addition, you can find out what the rabbits are thinking. Once you've sorted out which animals you're wanting to capture, you'll be given a brief description of what they're saying. Once you've chosen a animal, you can play the game and share it with the world. You'll also be able to put them in the game and keep them in your collection.
As far as how the experience works, the game uses the tilt function to rotate the screen and to make the dung beetle look like a toy. The DK64 game makes use of this for its unique behavior. You can shake the Nunchuk to make him shake the dung beetle, and shake the controller to shake the dung beetle when the dung beetle rolls.
To make it look good, the game lets you check out different environments, like an aquarium, a grassy forest, or a wood-filled castle. The game also has a unique bit of character interaction that lets you see through the special eyes you'll have equipped on your mitts. To see the different eyes, you simply use the D pad and adjust the view to look at the animal on your face.
Another cool element is that you can pull off moves and morph into certain animals, such as a boar, a gorilla, or a bird. Each animal has its own moves and properties, so you can morph your visor to look for different moves. For instance, when you take a look at a wolf, you can shoot a trail of light at it, which will eventually form a little circle around it. You'll have to react quickly to your surging footsteps, but it will make things easier for you. And as with the game's other morph-related features, you can morph into a bird when you need it most.
From what we've seen so far, the gameplay in Legacy of Kain is one that will be familiar to fans of The Legend of Zelda. You'll still fight undead skeletons, big bads, and evil witches. In the demo, we saw an opening cutscene that showed the three sages and a kraken taking out a queen. During that scene, the trio of sages were disarmed and the daughters were fighting a dragon. Though the two fighters were able to fend off the dragon, it was obvious that the kraken is at a loss for words. When the wizard used his strength against the kraken, he lashed out at the dragon, which was enough to send the combined dragon flying into the air. After the dragon burned away, it took the beast back to its former resting place.
