Punk
Punkbox is a delightful, sometimes chaotic collection of hamster-filled minigames, being made by developers across the world. With over 1,000 minigames (in some cases, hundreds) to explore, it's easy to find something to do. Whether it's pointing you in the direction of a guitar or shooting hoops at aliens in Punkbox, the amount of game that you'll get to play is quite staggering.
Punkbox is a simple game that only requires one joystick. To play the minigames, you're left in their appropriate direction and all you have to do is hit the left or right joystick. You move left and right while shooting, which causes the game to switch to the first player. When you're controlling the paddle, you press the left or right stick, which also turns on the D-pad, making your paddle move left or right and allowing you to tilt left or right to move up or down. Punkbox is a slightly more complicated game because it's the only one that requires two controllers, but if you have a friend around for good measure, you can find it easily.
Punkbox is controlled by four different camera views. There are three of them, and you can control the third one by pressing the X button while moving your character. If you're using two Joy-Cons, you can actually change the view by tapping the right joystick while you're playing. We also used the motion controls for the "shooting" mode, which uses the IR sensor to detect your character and throw a ball in the air. To put it simply, the aiming is similar to a real tennis game, except instead of using the D-pad, the pointer is mapped to your character's direction and trajectory. It feels just as natural as a real tennis racket, and it even works for passing. You can even fire your character up to swing, which is especially useful in chaotic moments when you're trying to rack up points or hit the ball that is going to be wasted.
Although the game will feature 30 songs on disc, the songs will be pre-recorded by DMA/Retro's logo artists. This is because the soundtrack will use the Mega Drive original's sound chip, which was removed from the home console because the developers did not want to use the music. The original music from the game's debut was recorded at Nintendo's headquarters in Kyoto, Japan, which should make its way to the Game Boy Advance as well. The Mega Drive tunes are pretty much finalized, so it's safe to say that the sound will be fully re-recorded. It will have the same amount of the original sounds, including the same excitement that comes from hitting the ball, like how nervous a ball or a shot gets when you're in the air.
Mega Drive console games use the unique four-channel system for the sound, with the four audio channels, and there will be a special CD containing music from a CD featuring game characters from a different Nintendo franchise.
According to Michel Cassius, the special CD features a music score from his original Mega Drive NES hit, Phantasy Star IV. This CD also features music from Star Wars and The Secret of Monkey Island, and in addition to these two games, this CD also includes a special version of Dynamite Headdy, which will feature even more music from Super Mario Bros. and Balloon Fight.
The six-channel system also includes a memory card that will let players store up to 6 games or save games on the CD.
Lastly, the Mega Drive system will have an HDMI cable that will allow the system to output a 4:3 aspect ratio on TV or even play video.
Each game in the Mega Drive console will have a limited number of sound chips that it can execute, so this system will be limited to that level of sound processing.
The ultimate home-run system is the Sega Genesis. By putting the system on its side and running on a stereo sound system, it'll offer players an alternative way to play a home console game. For example, if a game requires a speaker, the Genesis will do its job.
The Mega Drive also has an additional audio chip that will allow it to generate sound effects for the player when he or she is underwater. This is great for people like me who are prone to hearing my mother's song as her son sings in his room.
One of the biggest questions gamers have right now is what will be released for the Mega Drive system?
Although we have yet to comment on this question, we hope to hear more information about this in the near future.
Will the Sega Mega Drive make use of the CD?
The CD had CD technology that allowed CD-based audio to be recorded at 16:9 at 50Hz. This allowed for CD-based audio to be recorded at a more consistent rate, which is a big improvement over that of the Sega Genesis.
