Over The Hedge
Over The Hedge is Sega's first Sonic adventure and it's pretty obvious why. The game places the player in the role of Sonic, a cute hedgehog who simply happens to be best friends with him. The plot kicks off when he gets caught up in the Blue Blur's "falling evil emeralds," a mystical artifact that seems to have unleashed a bunch of evil bad guys into the world. The plot takes an interesting twist when it gets too silly, with Sonic named after The Great Deku Tree and a bunch of friendly hedgehog friends fighting against Eggman's forces in an attempt to bring his "gotta go fast!" pace to a more serious (and decidedly tame) environment. The demo we played allowed us to explore a little more of the level, and we got to try out one of the many different boss battles you'll encounter.
We played through the first level of Over The Hedge and encountered several different types of enemies. The first of these was a giant, mechanical monster known as the hammer. The massive creature is one of the best-looking Sonic in the game. The brute can knock Sonic down with a couple of quick punches. The second was a hulking enormous, flying, bruiser known as the beetle. The creature can perform a number of other tricks, including teleporting around and gliding. The third boss battle, which takes place in a forest, pitted Sonic against a caged figure known as the Hedgehog, who could do anything for Sonic.
After going through the forest level, we encountered one of the main puzzles in the game. The figure had the ability to turn into a giant boulder that Sonic could climb using a special ability. The boulder was not able to reach Sonic's height and ended up falling off a cliff, which we had to use our Sonic Force powers to leap onto. The figure also had a pair of bladed gloves that Sonic used to push through a barrier. The final boss fight featured several robots that could do the same thing as the ones shown at E3 and at GamesCom. This is due to Sonic's ability to speed up to the spot in the air. While this may sound daunting, it's really quite fun to beat the robot.
The graphics in Sonic Adventure are already looking sharp. Sonic's various abilities are in full effect. The character models are still as smooth as they were on the Dreamcast and look great. The game is not being completely rushed, but it's obviously going to take some time. The game is also going to feature a nice cel-shaded look as well. Sonic, although not being the best, is just as expressive as ever. The animation for Sonic's attacks is very fluid, which gives him a cool yet even more intimidating look. The frame rate looks sharp throughout the game, and the animation and camera work are also top notch. In addition to the main storyline and the various quests in the game, there is also a similar mini-game that tasks you with collecting crystals.
Sonic Adventure is shaping up to be one of the most graphically impressive games to be released on the Nintendo 64. The game features some fantastic animated sequences and character animation. The characters in the game look good, and they are all extremely detailed. You can run around the city and interact with various NPCs, including the hawk-like Tails. The game also has a special jump button that lets you grab on to another part of the city, which will give you a little boost. While the developers have done a good job of getting Sonic to move quickly and react appropriately, it's still possible to run at top speed by pressing the jump button. The game also features some nice effects that add to the feeling of speed. In one sequence, you'll be treated to several cutscenes that move the story along. You'll also find yourself in a familiar racing environment that's already populated with plenty of interesting objects. In addition, Sonic will be able to take out a robot with his gun. The game also features some interesting puzzle-solving elements. You'll need to use the enemies you come across to advance. In one sequence, you'll find robots fighting for control of a few sets of gears and letters. You'll find a UFO and a gem puzzle piece as well as a treasure sphere in the area. The adventure portion of the game will feature plenty of platforming and puzzle-solving elements as well.
Based on what we've played so far, Sonic Team has done an excellent job of developing Sonic Team's presentation, music, and sound. The overall presentation has been tightened up a bit and features some really nice touches. The camera is still a little problematic due to the camera angle being a little loose in the middle of the screen. However, it still serves as an impressive complement to the experience. The assorted 2D and 3D platforming elements are nicely done. The core game offers a good mix of old and new elements.
