Outlaw Golf
Outlaw Golf for the PC has gone gold and will be out this summer. The new title will be the first time that a golf game has been designed for the PC platform. After playing some of the original golf games on the PC, we noticed that the PC version of the game actually offered more in-depth visuals than the console versions. Outlaw Golf for the PC features 13 courses, each with several courses to play through.
As with the console versions of the game, Outlaw Golf will allow players to race to the finish line. The "pet system" allows players to chat using a keyboard and mouse. Players can choose to read other players' information, such as when they need to practice, turn on their unique shots, or hit an opponent. A power meter also plays a role in the game, as it gives players points based on how well they manage their power. For example, if players begin to run out of energy, they will begin to lose speed. At the end of the game, the power meter drops, and players are awarded multipliers for their accuracy, giving them a bigger lead.
In addition to multiplayer action, Outlaw Golf will feature a fully functional offline mode. Players will race in five different game modes: Knock Out, Circuit, Free Play, Free Play, and Tournaments. Knock Out is a team-based game mode where players race to get the most points by knocking down as many opponents as possible. Tag Mode is a competition between players that can be set to be the top team and a team-based competition, whereas Free Play allows up to six players to race simultaneously. Finally, Free Play lets two players race through an open-world course, testing their skills in practice and practice. In addition, the game will feature numerous daily and weekly challenges that can be played in the player’s custom character and collectibles.
Shredder and your uncle finds out that his crime has been made in the Outlaw Golf, and the duo must work together to track down and recover the stolen golf cart that’s been sent off to prison. However, things soon go wrong and you soon get involved in a ball-op game where you’re put in the right position to catch the ball, all the while avoiding other players and hazards. As you may have guessed, this is a standard golf game, and it has a few different levels of difficulty. Your typical game of golf is thrown at you in the options screen and each round has its own set of challenges to overcome. The first three stages are quite linear, so you’re not exactly required to beat the other levels. Once you beat the first three, you’re then allowed to play the other three with a few other players to earn the ‘Badges’ (more on that in a second).
As you play through the stages you’ll get to see the characters react to the ball and react accordingly. One of the ways in which your goal is to score the most points is to attempt to keep a large ball within your path. The next level of challenge is to collect the gold coins that are scattered around each stage and use them to unlock different course hazards and items. There’s also a boss battle to try and tackle, and you’re given a medal to make it all the way to the next level. The last level of challenge in each world is a bit like this, although that’s where the similarities end.
Speaking of medals, these levels can be reached by playing through them in any order you want. You can’t even carry your weight into your goal, so you have to be smart with how you use them. Considering how quickly the level loads will require you to use them, it’s pretty difficult to get into the finish line without needing to beat the stages. Luckily you’re able to save your progress between runs, so this means that you don’t have to worry about falling back down to the lower levels when you need to start over again.
The game has all the usual traits you’d expect from a game like this. There are no bad eggs to find and you can level up with various items. Some levels will have eggs that you find along the way that grant you extra lives, whilst others have them lying around which you can then use to speed up your game. We’d like to say that you’ll be able to earn an even higher score if you take the time to complete each stage as well.
While we have a mixed reaction to the game, we really like the inclusion of the Boss mode. Not only is it an amazingly unique idea for a game, but it makes a game that has a lot to offer. From boss battles to bizarre power ups and hats, there’s something that fans of the genre will be really interested in.
