Operation Tiger Hunt
Operation Tiger Hunt will introduce an all-new single-player campaign for up to three players, in which you'll play the role of a gunner and attempt to eliminate the opposing team before they can escape. But instead of the typical outdoor mission, the new mission will place players in the countryside with beach volleyball and warehouses, among other things, and take advantage of the overhead map. And it's up to you to protect the day, as well as the player, by blowing the other team's flag up, and hoping to reduce their opposition to dust.
The missions are designed to be replayable in multiplayer, though there are also two new game types for you to play through, one for both PC and console versions of the game. In addition, you'll be able to replay missions from the single-player campaign with a friend, and in the PC version, you'll be able to adjust the difficulty level of the AI to suit your needs.
Operation Tiger Hunt is currently scheduled for release in November.
We took an updated look at the PC version of Operation Tiger Hunt and found that the game's graphics and sound are quite stunning, and the real-time mode was a big selling point for us. We're pleased to report that the game looks a lot better on the PC, with its colorful look and fluid animation. Though we did get a few problems with the PC version of the game, we're pleased that the console version of the game seems to have improved a little over the last time we saw it, and we're glad that it's still coming together.
The PC version of the game includes the expected Xbox Live features, as well as two entirely new multiplayer modes--wild tour and deathmatch. The deathmatch game is a standard game of capture the flag, where your team is trying to secure as many flags as possible while attempting to stay alive long enough to collect as many of the flags you can. In the deathmatch game, your team's base is designated as a supply point, so if the enemy runs out of lives, you're given two minutes to capture and then resupply it. The deathmatch game was a mode where you could just play as your team's base, and as we found out when we tried it on the Xbox 360 last week, the mode is essentially the same.
We played some of the deathmatch mode in the Xbox 360 version of the game, though we were surprised by how different it was from the standard Xbox Live play. At any rate, the old-school formula of capture the flag is back, albeit in this case in the form of a central, circular area. You'll be able to hold any one of the two flags in the center of the zone for as long as you like, but if you move around too much, your side of the zone will be completely wiped out.
We also had the chance to play the PC version of the game, as well as the PlayStation 3 version of the game, which seemed to be a good-looking console game. The controls felt good, the graphics looked great, and the action was fast and furious. We were also happy to see that the PC version of the game has support for 4:3 monitors and displays at 60 frames per second. The same can be said for the Xbox 360 version, though with less screen space than the Xbox Live version, it would have been nice if there were fewer oddities on display.
The core gameplay will be as follows: Build your team, destroy the enemy, and win.
The structure of the game is simple and easy to pick up. You start off by choosing a basic game mode, then drop in to battle, which is basically the same one that was used in other PC games. You select a team, enter the map, and try to knock out your opponent in one of three ways. From there, you can select your opponents and either try to knock them off the map or try to pull them off as they emerge. On the Xbox 360, you can choose your team and enter the map. After choosing a team, you will face off against a set of AI-controlled computer opponents. The only difference between the two modes is that the AI will come in two flavors: Normal and Elite. Normal matches will be your standard head-to-head matches. When you start a new match, you'll choose one of four opponents and play through a random match. You can choose from three different match types: pickup, king of the hill, and deathmatch. A capture the flag will give you a portable point that you can place at a specific point. The catch is that if you collect the four points, the only way to win is to lose. If you manage to successfully get to the goal within a time limit, you can just go back and earn the point. The king of the hill is a faster-paced version of domination.
