Neverwinter Nights 2
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer was an excellent expansion to the award-winning PC role-playing game from Obsidian Entertainment. In it, players have the opportunity to join the five more players, which comprises many different adventuring party members. The other four characters, the Waverider, who players can customize, have different abilities, and one thing to note: The Waverider is a beast. Because of his innate ability to communicate, he has the ability to speak both in and out of conversations, and can even communicate with NPCs to gather information, detect unusual events, and react accordingly. If the Waverider happens to be online, the game is running at a constant 60 frames per second, so his opponent is currently in the frame, or the battle is over. The frame rate should improve even further if the Waverider has been overclocked.
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer features plenty of new features. There are many new features, including a new party system that allows players to create their own adventures as either the Harper or the New Zealander, and even more different side stories, such as the intriguing mystery of Lady Luck. The new dialogue system that will be in the game lets players choose their character's response to different types of situations, and a new save system lets players reload from previous adventures in their adventuring careers in order to save the game when they die.
In addition, the AI has been improved as well. A couple of new computer-controlled characters have been added in a patch that adds some of the skills and spells that players have learned in previous NWN games, and these new skills include in-depth sub-tribers that teach their characters skills as well as new sub-tribers that teach their skills more intelligently and try to figure out new ways to use them as well. Other updates include improved loading screens, more inventory items, and more details about the setting and how players will use it.
Neverwinter Nights will also be more immersive than Neverwinter Nights and has made some major changes to the interface. Most of the interface has been improved, but there is now a couple of new options for players to set and group their group. It will be possible to set up their party from the start menu, or to set a group to accompany the players on adventures. In addition, the various chat channels will now support simultaneous party-based communications, so a group of five players can join a group of five or six, then have their characters share the same screen. And the network interface will also be tweaked, so you can now set a group of up to four players to join a game, or to group up and look into an opponent's area and choose to make one group for yourself.
The game will also make significant changes to the gameplay system. For instance, the game will now use the SPECIAL system that was seen in other role-playing games in the past, so you'll be able to give yourself a bonus to your next character level. This will mean that you'll have more freedom in your actions, allowing you to better play how you want. The game will also feature a randomness system, which will make your characters more likely to lose their flaws in other players' storylines, or simply become less powerful.
Even the story will be different in Fallout 3, because it will use a completely new series of quests and nonlinear gameplay. We saw one mission set in a neutral territory in a war zone, and a few characters of the same faction appeared in it as well. But there's also a good deal of story to be found in the game, since the game's two main characters will have new quests.
As we've seen in previous Fallout games, the plot is full of twists, and there are a lot of interesting character interactions, both obvious and subtle, that you'll have to uncover yourself in order to advance the game. For instance, the beta testers were given the opportunity to explore a location that was never seen in any previous Fallout games, so they had no idea that the story behind it would work. Still, it showed that you should always be in control of your character, even if you don't have to pay to do so. There's still a danger of being tracked, so you'll find yourself sneaking up behind foes or even finishing off targets with stealth. There are also more subtle clues to be found that will reveal something important, such as an item that is visible on the game map.
We watched a few of the other characters in action, including one member of a special forces unit that was looking for a missing robot. He found that some missing robot parts were hanging on the walls and was determined to find them. To do so, we needed to track down a missing robot and kill it in the arms race. The sequence was quite brief, but it gave us an idea of the kind of action Fallout will feature.
