NBA Live 2005
NBA Live 2005 is scheduled to take players from all over the world to the NBA courts.
EA Sports has put together the in-game development team, which includes people who worked on all three NBA Live games, including the highly acclaimed NBA Live 2005. (3 is called NBA Live 2005 and is a major upgrade on the 2 series, not the last 2). EA Sports is not attending the NBA Live 2005 show this year, but instead will be attending E3 next week to cover all the major events for next year.
The inclusion of those people should make the games a bit more playable, as NBA Live 2005 has plenty of modes, most notably the career mode. EA will also be the first company that publishes a game without putting a basketball game on the market, so to speak. For the first time, all of the NBA Live 2005 teams will be included in the game, so no lawsuits or fictional player skins are involved in the development of the game. NBA Live 2005 will also feature arcade modes, allowing you to go head-to-head against other human players online.
While the game will have a season mode, players won't be able to take part in the big contests in the league mode. NBA Live 2005 will also feature a season-long season mode, but only for a limited period of time. The game's player stats will be logged on a global forum where the teams will post player stats. As you win awards, you'll see a breakdown of player attributes. If you win the most categories, you'll get a free jersey to use as a virtual draft candidate, and if you lose, you'll get an actual reward.
As far as online play goes, NBA Live 2005 will support all the game modes you'd expect in a sports game--at least in terms of online play. One of the big draws to the game is the create-a-player feature, which lets you create a custom player for your online team and then share it with other players. However, this will only be possible with the game's control scheme--the Xbox 360 controller has a number of options to make it more user-friendly, such as gesture-based controls, along with several other hand gestures. You can make certain actions like running, passing, or shooting more quickly, and you can also set up certain variables like wing strength and wingspaner placement. In addition, it's possible to set up custom player stats that will reflect your style of play, such as where the left stick is to go, and how defensive the back is to the basket.
As far as presentation goes, NBA Live 2005's presentation will take advantage of the Xbox 360's graphical capabilities. Most of the NBA roster in the game looks very sharp and professional, with highly detailed crowd models, clean textures, and lots of particles that are new to the series. The lighting is also excellent, and we noticed that the sun shines in rain and shine with each shot. The crowd also makes a subtle change to the weather that is visible on the court, along with the games-specific ambient audio that changes on the fly as you play. The soundtrack can be heard in the mode's locker room or on the street corner.
The inclusion of a strong, on-the-court coaching system adds a great deal of variety to the game. Although we were able to get a good feel for how each player performs in the game, there was one issue we had with the game. The lack of coaching controls gave us a bit of trouble with the game. Many of the default features in the game allow you to take control of your player as you play and set him up for specific situations. However, some players can control the number of plays he can use in a match. For example, to play a seven-game season, you would have to play a seven-game season on offense. This usually takes several games on defense, and it usually takes a while to change your player. While this sounds promising, it's far from ideal. If you use your Xbox's voice capabilities to speak to the other players on your team, you will have a different experience as well. One of the issues we encountered during the game was that the player we were controlling didn't feel like he was really there to play. If we were playing a playoff game and were watching the game, it would be very difficult to do that because we had to sit back and play the game in front of the computer, which resulted in many other game breaking errors.
There are two ways to play an NBA 2K5:
The easiest way is to just play the game yourself and play it yourself. You can play two to three games on a given season, but if you want to play a playoff game, you're going to have to play the NBA 2K5 game itself. Of course, you can always play the game and use the game as an option.
