Monster Garage
Monster Garage is a crazy kart racing game that, let's face it, was pretty dull. That's why you were excited to hear that its development team would be getting some help from your support team to make the game more polished and stable than it was. A lot of people were wondering how the game would perform on the Wii. Fortunately, GameSpot News was one of the lucky ones that had an opportunity to sit down with the folks at Capcom and ask them a little more about the game.
GameSpot: The demo you showed was basically a preview build of Monster Garage. Why the decision to make a racing game like this? What does it mean to develop a new one?
CK: Monster Garage is a third-person action game set in the Monster Roadad. The key word here is that it will be a lot more than a racing game. At the same time, this means that a lot of elements of the Monster Roadad game work in Monster Garage. And when we create a third-person action game, the goal is to make sure that we deliver the type of exciting gameplay that Monster Garage will be.
GS: Monster Garage seems like it's coming together quite well. Is there going to be any kind of fast paced action in the game, or is it a bit more focused on hand-to-hand fighting?
CK: The only major difference is that Monster Garage will feature races and races. For example, in the Monster Roadad demo, you'll race against other hunters or other players online in the action world, and you'll do all the battle in the game. It's really fun. I would like to talk more about this aspect of the game and what we can do with the various weapons that are available in the game.
GS: We've heard that Monster Garage will have support for both online and single-player, but there are no plans to have the feature available at launch.
CK: We have nothing to announce at this time, but we will have one.
GS: What can you tell us about the multiplayer modes?
CK: Monster Garage is a collection of traditional multiplayer modes that are accessible at any level. The game includes some sort of escort mode that can be played as any of the vehicles you can select in single-player mode. It is your mission to protect a variety of vehicles from enemy attacks.
You'll be able to play the game's maps with your friends online and share them with you.
You'll also be able to do the same thing with your friends online and have a peek at a wide variety of maps in the game. The other big thing in multiplayer is the ability to play any game mode with your friends, with the maximum amount of mayhem possible for each player.
GS: The graphics in the game are coming along very well, and CK: It looks as though it will be coming along quite nicely. What's the biggest surprise that we saw at the Tokyo Game Show, especially for a game that seemed a lot more than just an updated version of the PlayStation 2 game?
You'll see a lot of new textures and improved lighting for the cars, buildings, and buildings. The textures look very good and are also easy to animate, although the animations were somewhat jerky. It also looks like the damage modeling in the game is being tweaked as well.
GS: Have you made any particular additions to the game that have made it much more appealing to players?
RN: I wouldn't say that I've made any drastic changes to the game for the PS2. In fact, I think a lot of players will find that the graphics in the game have improved dramatically. It is just more refined overall. I think this will help the player become more immersed in the game, rather than being a toy.
GS: Are you also adding any other changes that weren't implemented into the game at launch?
RN: Yes, there is a lot of things that we've done to make the game more appealing and really play. Some of the new features that have been added were ones that we had planned for the game. We didn't have the time to do this ourselves, and the results are much more amazing.
GS: Tell us about the new bounty hunter abilities. We heard that the gun-toting desperado is going to be getting a few new weapons this time around. Are there any other new weapons that you're planning to add?
RN: In order to bring you up to speed on the new weapons, we have not added any new ones at this time. We plan on doing the old ones in a couple of weeks so we don't have to move the resources too much in.
GS: When you were making games for the PlayStation 2, did you ever have an idea how the game would be translated to the platform? Are you able to explain the intricacies of the game in a new way, or are you stuck with a specific language and controlling the game?
