MechWarrior4 Vengeance
MechWarrior4 Vengeance will be the next Mechwarrior game that developer Innerloop has lined up, and it will offer players new content as well as better graphics. A single-player campaign will feature 12 missions, and new stages will also be added to the game.
The single-player campaign will consist of 11 missions that will take place between the conclusion of the campaign and the beginning of the following MechWarrior 4 campaign. Players can choose from multiple mechs to fly on and explore each of the six new planets. The factions include the United States and Japan, which are free and have enough weapons and armor, respectively.
New units will be introduced to the game and will be designed in part by the programmer of an "amazing" graphics accelerator for computers. Innerloop CEO James Zhao explains: "We want to focus on making sure that the game will feel different, but that players will still be in control of the designs and game design on top of it. This will help differentiate our new game from previous MechWarrior games by introducing new types of mechs, and we hope that players will be able to enjoy a very different MechWarrior experience than they did in the previous games."
Players will pilot an Armored Titan with a high-tech arsenal of guns, missiles, and armor.
The game will be split into 13 campaigns that will be roughly 50 to 50 minutes long. Like in the previous games, players will be able to jump into each level at the start, but some new, more-unique mechs will be unlocked. In this case, players will be able to jump into any level and have one mech to take on a mission.
We've gone to great lengths to capture some of the specific features of the Armored Titan.
GS: Is the Xbox game based on an entirely new engine? What was the impetus for the development of the Xbox version? What was the impetus for the transition from the PC to the Xbox?
GG: Our main goal with the Xbox version was to be the best MechWarrior we could possibly make, especially when it comes to technology. We think that this will be the definitive MechWarrior experience. The fact that you can fly an 8-ton GDI in 3D in a souped-up mech, or use an 8-ton Bandit to control a Humvee, all in an astonishingly close-range battlefield, adds an entirely new dimension to the gameplay.
GS: What was the impetus for the transition from the PC to the Xbox?
GG: The core core MechWarrior is developed from the ground up for the Xbox. There are some cool features that we added that will make it a true next-generation MechWarrior experience. Most importantly, we wanted to have a complete combat experience. We felt that the player-versus-player balance between action, technology, and storyline. This is the ultimate MechWarrior experience, and we are excited to be able to tell a story of one MechWarrior battle.
GS: How big is the single-player campaign in MechWarrior 3? How many missions will it feature?
GG: The campaign is divided into chapters, and we have many more planned. This includes three campaigns based on the Earth campaigns and several scenarios for each. The story follows the battle against the Inner Sphere and pilots of the Union against the Inner Sphere. The missions are linked to each other and the story follows the battle in a timeline that progresses as the campaign progresses.
GS: What types of mechs will the single-player campaign include?
GG: There are three types of mechs: compact, agile, and fast. This game contains many of the weapons and armor from the large-scale warfare of the recent MechWarrior games. There are more than 20 types of mechs in the game, including a total of 103 types.
GS: Mechwarrior 3 uses the new 3D 3D engine. Tell us about the graphical features in the game. How many polygons are being used, and how much of it has been used?
GG: Yes, the new 3D engine is a huge leap in terms of graphical detail. The more polygons and the resolution the better in general, and of course in mech combat, you will see more particles flying over the battlefield. The more polygons and the better the game's look, the better it'll look. The most impressive part of Mechwarrior 3's visuals is that this game uses the entire model animation system. Each frame of the engine is sent to the eye so that it can be rendered in real time. You can get a very accurate view of the battlefield. The textures of each character are especially impressive. You can see that characters in each character's armor appear to be moving on the ground; and if you are sitting in a war, they appear to be sitting in the stands.
