Lost Realms: Legacy of the Sun Princess
Lost Realms: Legacy of the Sun Princess was one of the games that showed that Sony and its Japanese development team had the faith in its own gamers to enjoy its amazing world-building. What's more, for the past several months, Sony's North American marketing team has shown that it's highly interested in the game and can show that even gamers who aren't fans of the series may still want to experience the story and characters firsthand.
Lost Realms is one of the most anticipated titles for North America by gamers everywhere, and while the game itself hasn't received much attention in Japan since its announcement, it is shaping up to be a worthy successor to the already high-profile Lost Realms. That is, until it is released in North America, when gamers everywhere will be treated to the original game. The game features numerous monsters, some of which can only be encountered during the game's storyline.
Many gamers have high hopes for Lost Realms: Legacy of the Sun, but we'll have to wait until we get our hands on the North American version to know for sure. However, fans will find plenty to love about Lost Realms. The game will be set in the same universe as the first Lost Realms, and it will feature a large number of new monsters, like the giant rock monster Kabuto, and its massive, one-headed eagles. Lost Realms will also feature an all-new cooperative mode in which gamers will work together to complete quests and defeat increasingly difficult enemies.
Now, the biggest new feature in Lost Realms: Legacy of the Sun will be its co-op. Gamers will be able to play the game with up to four other players on the same planet. The game will feature a variety of multiplayer modes, including deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the flag, along with vehicle-based capture-the-flag.
As we saw in the first of the multiplayer demos of the game, Lost Realms will feature all the action that fans have come to expect from Blizzard's genre-defining Diablo series. But while Diablo II and Warcraft III will feature cooperative play, the game will also feature dynamic action. The game will have an all-new "reality mode" that will let you take your single-player character and duke it out with a friend. The game will feature a variety of dynamic action levels that will feature a number of interesting twists. For instance, some levels may feature more-complex dungeon-crawling, as well as treasure-filled sewers. It will be interesting to see how this dynamic action works, given that there will be numerous levels that feature different kinds of enemies, and how the game will be structured. Also, from what we saw, Lost Realms' frame rate was fairly sharp, as well.
While all of the multiplayer details have been revealed in the development diary, we haven't seen a lot of the game's single-player mode, which was actually planned for the closed beta test of the game at that time. We've still got to wait a bit longer for those details, but we hope that more information is released in the months ahead.
As far as multiplayer goes, both online and single-player will be heavily influenced by the Diablo II's hack-and-slash system, which lets you perform various actions by pausing the game and manually initiating them. The first-person view will let you control your character, and you can choose which area to position yourself in. The other mode we were shown was a first-person shooter, and it was in the vein of Unreal Tournament. You'll play as a marine, who wields a sword and can perform some nifty moves. The battles we saw were both fast-paced and close-quarters, and we noticed that you'll have access to all the weapons and powers that you'd expect to find in an id shooter, such as katanas and pipes.
The one aspect of the game that hasn't changed is the graphics engine, which features an updated version of the Radeon 8800 Pro. The game has been designed to take advantage of the latest hardware features, such as high-resolution textures, an advanced particle system, and fully raytracing. The core gameplay is being tweaked to offer more freedom in how you play the game. You'll be able to see every little thing you can see on the screen. The game will offer a wide variety of locales and areas to fight through. As a result, the game will have an overall more focused feel.
The audio in the game will be coming together very well, thanks to Dolby Pro Logic II. We got a good feel for the effects used in the game's sound effects, which range from the voices of your characters and the music they'll be composed for, to how they're incorporated into the game's sound effects. You'll also find a host of new speech samples in the game, which is a good mix of aural buzz and good old fashioned war cries.
