Lord of the Rings Return of the King
Lord of the Rings Return of the King, the film that cemented Amazon’s position as the king of fantasy in the world of film, might be one of the biggest successes of the year. Tolkien fans had a long wait for the anticipated, Lord of the Rings video game adaptation, but even with the years spent making sure the title had the right crew and the right development team, it was still so new to get a big game based on Tolkien’s universe.
The first trailer for the game debuted at Gamescom 2012, showing off an epic adventure that would be followed by the premiere of the third act. The trailer delivered on that promise and more, promising to make sure the game kept its narrative sprawled on.
“There’s going to be some action in this, I’m really excited about that,” said Telltale Games president and co-founder Dan Connors, the director of The Walking Dead and the creator of The Wolf Among Us. “It’s going to be intense.”
Dying Light, the studio’s follow up to their 2013 game, may have just been the game to carry the torch, but it wasn’t just The Walking Dead that’s on the horizon. Following the release of the trailer for the game, Techland tweeted “I know it’s coming. I know it’s coming, but I can’t reveal too much.”
After teasing the trailer and hinting that it could come next month, Techland has issued a message via its Twitter account, asking fans to keep an eye out for further news about Dying Light. The publisher has now offered a tease: “I know it’s coming, but I can’t share too much right now.”
Given the quality of The Walking Dead and the amount of attention Techland has gained with the game, it’s fair to assume that the developer is working hard on something as anticipated. In fact, Techland released a new trailer at the start of May which featured the voices of several different characters from the series: Melissa Hutchinson, Kyle MacLachlan, and Phillipe Fahey.
“The Walking Dead is back,” the studio wrote. “We are happy to announce the release date for Dying Light: The Following on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.”
While that’s a bit vague, fans of Telltale Games and episodic gaming seem to be in agreement. “Today, we are thrilled to announce that the retail edition of The Walking Dead: The The Following is officially available at all major retail outlets in North America.”
As mentioned above, it’s worth noting that the original release of the game had “issues” with the Steam platform. “The first issue that came up was a few days ago with the PC version of the game that resulted in a number of problems that will hopefully be addressed as soon as possible.”
The good news is that fans will be able to experience The Following, its prequel story that is essentially a prequel to the first season of The Walking Dead.
According to Telltale, it took about an hour to complete the game and posted a new teaser for the game on its website. It shows a character wearing a white coat with a scarf on the front. It is said that “yourself is gone”. This also marks the first time The Walking Dead has been released on a console console platform. The first episode of the first season launched on PS4, Xbox One, PC, iOS and Android devices.
After making a statement of its own, Telltale issued a statement of its own on the matter. This quote reads:
“The third episode of The Walking Dead: The Final Season was made available on PS4 and Xbox One, shortly after the release of the first episode. Since then, the PlayStation®4 and Xbox One versions have been available since November 19. The third episode is still a ways off, so we will have more details to share soon.”
The Walking Dead: The Final Season is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
