Juiced
Juiced isn't the first racing game on the market to offer a driving model, but the latest build of THQ's Juiced doesn't seem to be drawing as many comparisons with Need For Speed Underground. Instead, Juiced is a return to the high-octane and thrill-seeking racing of arcade racers like Burnout.
The game features four game modes--no Story mode, single-player, or online--and should offer plenty of variety for fans of arcade racing. The single-player game lets you race with up to five other drivers as you race, complete objectives, and collect as much money as you can. Additionally, the cars feature realistic driving characteristics.
Juiced is currently in its alpha stage, and while you can go hands-on with the game right now, we're guessing that the final version will be something that lets you try out the driving mechanics before it ships in March. For more information on the game, read our full preview.
Our full Juiced preview features a complete look at the game, and some screenshots of the cars that will be available.
The most recent Need for Speed game to hit the Xbox is Need for Speed Underground 2 for the Xbox. Electronic Arts is clearly taking advantage of the extra power that the Xbox has, and the game features a number of improvements over the Xbox version. Most notable are the visuals, which are far more refined than the Xbox original. The game features improved graphics in many areas, including the frame rate, which has been upped to 70.
Need for Speed Underground 2 is a huge improvement over the original.
The game's presentation is also much more improved. The color palette has been enhanced, and the character models have gotten a sharp boost in terms of polygon detail. The lighting effects in the game have also been refined. The game features three modes, in which gamers can choose between intense simulation, road trip, and freestyle. In addition, gamers can choose to play as one of 15 other characters, and they can customize their character's appearance as well.
Need for Speed Underground 2 is available now for the PlayStation 2.
As far as graphics go, THUG3 is the best-looking game on the market.
THUG2 offers plenty of new features that help the game stand out. Aside from a graphical boost over the original game, the game includes all the same flashy effects that made it so popular in the first place. The game includes a new particle system that lets you interact with the environment, a first for the series. As far as the freestyle mode goes, it has been tweaked a bit to let you interact with the environments by moving your hand. The game also features a new cooperative mode, where two players can work together to pass the time in a race. THUG3 also features some additions, such as the return of the arcade mode, which offers a number of racing-style options, such as the opportunity to play as a single racer. We also learned that the version of the game we played had an extended loading time that had the same impressive feeling as the last game.
The audio in the game has been significantly beefed up, thanks to the addition of strong songs and voice acting. The game's soundtrack will feature tracks from the rap group Metallica, as well as original hip-hop tracks. The sound effects in the game have also been improved, thanks to an enhanced audio engine. You'll hear a mix of heavy metal and country tracks and folk tracks from artists like AC/DC, The Doors, and Queens of the Stone Age. The soundtrack is complemented by a track that features punk songs from Cheap Trick, Les Misérables, Dookie, Yoti, and Tom Petty.
While the single-player game features the standard assortment of unlockable content that you'd expect, the new mode will include a hefty chunk of bonus content that's reminiscent of the PlayStation 2 version of the game. You'll find a good variety of new extras on offer in the game. You'll find two game modes to choose from: survival mode and quick match. The survival mode is a team-based mode that challenges you to survive until you score as many points as you can. The quick match mode features one of three difficulty levels--normal, hard, and hard--for you to choose from. Hard is a standard race that has you fighting to survive until you score as many points as possible. The quick match mode has you jumping into a battle with a cursor that moves around the screen. The quick match mode lets you choose a car, one of two modes, and a track in your race.
You'll find two standard modes to choose from in the game. The most notable is the quick match mode. This mode will challenge you to beat your personal best score by working in as many races as possible. The quick match mode lets you pick your car, set up a car, and race it out in an attempt to make it to the finish line first.
