Jack Attack 2
Jack Attack 2 is out now on Xbox, PlayStation 2, GameCube, and PC, and it includes all of the movie content that was in the original. However, there are some improvements and new characters, such as Donnie Darko and Brad Dourif. The fighting system is slightly more advanced, as Jack Attacks 2 also includes a special attack called Thunder Ride. This can be used in conjunction with a variety of other attacks, such as a tiger blast that'll leave a trail of fire on your opponent. You'll also be able to use this attack in midair, and it's much more difficult to dodge. When you defeat an enemy, you'll find that your avatar has a set number of moves you can execute.
Jack Attack 2 features a total of 34 fighters. For example, after we defeated Skipper, we unlocked Jen Douglas, a former Kong. The fighter starts out with a single attack and can use all of the weapons and items available to him. Each weapon has unique properties, such as increased damage, longer-range attacks, and the ability to inflict a status effect on an opponent. For instance, Tommy's sword can cut through various pieces of wood in a single move. In addition, for the fighting section, we were able to unlock the Dark Side, a gun that was unique to this section of the game.
The control scheme is quite simple. You hold X and use the left shoulder button to lock onto the nearest enemy. Pressing down the circle button to use an attack causes your character to jump in the air. From there, you use the right shoulder button to attack. Using the circle button to perform a jump attack is assigned to the face buttons (X on the Xbox, Y on the PlayStation 2), the left shoulder button to jump, and the right shoulder button to perform a special attack.
Your second character is an agile combatant with a high jumping ability, and this particular character possesses the fastest movement in the game. There are a number of different combat techniques that can be executed in the game. For instance, running around and pulling off a somersault kick will earn you a multiplier on your health; it'll make you invincible in any situation.
Other techniques are mostly learned using a rather weak fighter. The martial art used to deliver Kyo's kicks is known as a "flash" style, and it is very simple to execute. If you need to get into a tight spot, you can string together an uppercut by holding down the right shoulder button. The right shoulder button will execute a fierce kick and hold it down, and you can execute a counterattack by tapping the left shoulder button. In addition, you can perform a uppercut by pressing both shoulder buttons simultaneously. The attack will set you up for a follow-up attack, and you can activate it by pressing the right shoulder button while holding it. You can execute a follow-up attack by pressing the right shoulder button, or pressing the right shoulder button.
The flash style gives you a slight advantage over your opponent when it comes to punches. The corner of the screen will quickly blur, and if you're getting a chance to get in a well-timed punch, you can do a kick. However, if you aren't executing the punch successfully, your opponent will try to make a series of steps. If you do a haymaker with the haymaker, you'll instantly win the match. But if you are getting more into the haymaker aspect, you can also perform a regular uppercut by pressing the left shoulder button while holding the left shoulder button. The game will even drop a haymaker meter just as a quick-strike motion when you're timed properly. You can also trigger an uppercut by pressing the right shoulder button while holding the right shoulder button.
The screen in which your boxer is entering a haymaker mode is surprisingly impressive.
It seems like there will be several different ways to keep the action moving. There's the standard run-and-kick, hammer and clinching, the chain grapple, and the gunplay. You'll be able to pick your boxer up and drop him on the floor, and you can also hop in with other players by simply pushing the left trigger. The pacing in the game is pretty smooth. We were able to do two things per game--smashing out and clinching in one. While one fight took place on the ground in a basement gym, you'll be able to hit up your opponent to get up, along with your punch and grab, by pressing the right shoulder button.
Though the controls were a bit unresponsive at times, the controls were responsive and easy to learn. We could easily tell when your boxer was flipping through the air and hitting the corresponding punch or grab button. The hit detection was also good and accurate, so it would take a bit of adjustment to pick up the opponent and knock him off the mat before he would swing back.
