Incoming Forces
Incoming Forces is an isometric tactical shooter for the PC. The game is currently in development by Agetec, the former Rareware studio headed up by ex-Naughty Dog developers, at the behest of R.A.L. Heinlein. Incoming Forces will see players taking on a variety of enemies both organic and alien. Players will be able to use the right analog stick to move and a grenade or blast using the left trigger to fire.
"We are very excited to be bringing a squad-based tactical shooter to the PC," said Jonathan Dyshagen, Agetec president and COO. "It's been years of learning from the best PC games and with the next generation of consoles and mobile phones, we feel the same will happen with our games."
Incoming Forces will feature a variety of mission types, including escorting convoys from an alien airbase to the world's surface. The game will also feature a persistent world, allowing players to challenge their friends to missions, complete goals, or simply take part in their own battles.
Developed by Firaxis Games, it's expected to arrive this fall on the PC and Xbox 360. No platforms have been announced yet.
"We are very pleased that we have managed to successfully develop a first-person shooter in the past," said John Cook, president and CEO of Take-Two Interactive. "We believe that this project, combined with a strong leadership team at Firaxis Games, will help us to create the best possible game experience for our fans. I think the future looks bright for the fans of XCOM, strategy and strategy games.”
Our initial hands-on with Firaxis' game was not quite representative of the final product. We got a taste of the gameplay, though, and it didn't look like XCOM was going to be any less compelling than Firaxis' previous efforts. Our preview concluded that Firaxis would make good on its promise of a great game in the time to come, but its development will continue.
"Firaxis has a knack for creating compelling and entertaining stories and gameplay, and the current project with Firaxis Games is one of the greatest examples of that," said Vlatko Andonov, project manager at Firaxis Games. "We have lofty ambitions for this project. We know we are going to build upon our success with the recently released Civilizations II, but we’re also taking some bold new steps to ensure that players and gamers alike will be able to play this game as they see fit."
In our recent interview, we got to see the beginnings of Firaxis' plan to support the development of the game and its sequel. Civilization IV was a big focus for the team, even though the previous games in the series were the closest thing to a major sequel. Firaxis didn't use the original Civ IV to introduce us to new gameplay, so the team focused heavily on expanding and expanding the gameplay features of the first game, including the famed "heavy artillery" ability.
As the first Civilization IV expansion, Gettysburg, introduced several major improvements to the series. Chief among them were some really drastic gameplay changes. Most notably, it introduced the ability to place an order of resources under the fire of the current military. This was a huge shift in strategy that still hasn't been seen in any of the other Civ games, since they offered so many new and very different gameplay systems to keep the game fresh. In the long term, however, we're hoping that Gettysburg will be a much more user-friendly experience that will make the game more accessible for new players.
One of the most important changes that Firaxis made to the series with Gettysburg was its new approach to the economic and cultural development of the Americas. The tech tree in Colonization has been revised so that resources that are harvested aren't used up, but rather, harvested instead. This should make it much easier for players to make money, and it should make it a lot easier to manage the resources available to them at the start of each turn. The new research that was made available to players in Colonization will be much more interactive this time around, with cities automatically generating resources if they're high on it.
Civilization 6 is definitely a game that fans of the series will want to play, and so the development team is working to make sure that fans of the series can get their money's worth with this new take on the classic turn-based strategy. Players can play through Colonization 3: Conquests for free, and they can check it out without any investment. This free version of Colonization 3 has some of the best content that Firaxis has ever developed, and it is definitely worth checking out for any fans of the franchise.
There are two ways that fans can play Colonization 3: They can either jump in with a veteran, or they can try the free version and see if it's for them.
