GS: It's been quite a while since you last played. How long has it been since the last time you played a Sonic game? Have you played any games since?
SM: Our team has spent many years creating the most entertaining and original levels of Sonic the Hedgehog for a worldwide audience. The development team has also constantly been listening to the fans, and have repeatedly implemented new features that make the games fun to play and offer something new to the Sonic franchise.
GS: What are some of the challenges facing the game's community?
SM: The first challenge for us was to make sure the community was properly prepared for Sonic the Hedgehog, and it was up to the developer and Sonic Team to properly introduce this concept. There are more than 100 levels to play. There are plenty of elements that you could find yourself unconsciously modifying and testing when making a game.
GS: What types of gamers have you played with the Sonic series?
SM: Sonic the Hedgehog is more accessible than ever. The Sonic series was originally designed as a fast-paced, 3D platformer that took advantage of all the elements Sonic fans had come to love, including speed and precision. The difficulty of the game is naturally high, so players need to be prepared to endure more than 20 levels at a time. The gameplay is quick and accessible, and gamers will be amazed at how easy it is to play the game with two controllers, and the response of the audience is very positive. The community has grown significantly since the release of the first two Sonic games.
GS: What other games inspired Sonic?
SM: The Sonic the Hedgehog franchise is a new era for Sega. I first introduced Sonic the Hedgehog to the world at the beginning of the Sega Genesis era in 1992. Sonic the Hedgehog first took place on Sega's Master System. Sonic the Hedgehog was the first platformer and the only one of the series to have an electronic song and song composer. After a time, Sega introduced the world to the music of Sonic the Hedgehog and a new generation of gamers, thanks to the success of the Sonic franchise. We wanted to take the Sonic franchise in new directions, including new character-based gameplay, more fast-paced action, more immersive graphics, and a whole new generation of gamers.
GS: How much is Sonic and the Secret Rings? How long has it been in development?
SM: Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is currently in development. The project has progressed a lot, and in doing so, we have significantly added a lot of new elements that were essential to the success of the original game. This includes gameplay elements that fans had come to expect from the Sonic franchise. These include new characters, original music, an innovative and detailed story, and new action elements such as a "ping" system.
GS: Were you pleased with the original Sonic the Hedgehog, or did you have more expectations for Sonic's third game?
SM: Our teams did a great job of delivering quality Sonic games.
