Haruka 2
Haruka 2 has been in development for almost as long as Shōnen Jump has been covering manga and anime. Even though it has had a lot of success, I had the foresight to release the first two volumes within the first year of its release. I have been hoping for a sequel to this well-received manga and that it would appeal to fans of Shonen Jump. However, the developer, Sega, had been unhappy with my plans for the sequel in terms of its development schedule. Thus, the release of Haruka 2 in Japan on March 21, 2005, is almost complete.
The development process is like a reset. Development of this title is very complex and has only been six months. So while there is a lot of trouble brewing with the English version, there is plenty of support for Sega. This is also why I feel the game needs to be reviewed. I hope to get a more detailed preview of the game soon.
With the game on schedule, the I wish the company would continue to make games in Japan. If it is going to be out, the best way to do so is to have a distribution agreement. I'd rather concentrate on the games I've already played so far. That way, if I had the opportunity to play the original, I could get the latest versions. My only hope is that if the games come to market, they will be even more popular, and that I'll get a great game for it.
As I said, I'd like to see more of Virtua Fighter 5, the first game in the series to hit consoles in Japan. The action looks good.
While I'm not a huge fan of Fighting EX, I have to admit that it looks really nice and I'm hoping for a similar story in this game.
Lastly, as I've been pretty much since I first picked up an import version of Virtua Fighter 5 in arcades, I've been surprised by how well it's received in the US. As I've said, I've played some pretty bad games, including Space Harrier, so this game should definitely appeal to everyone.
My role in the import version of Virtua Fighter 5 has been to purchase the original game, and I've been pretty much satisfied with what I've seen. The controls are pretty great, and I'm looking forward to seeing how they come into play in this version.
While I don't have to wait much longer to play the original game in Japan, it seems that the series is only getting bigger. Hopefully we'll see Virtua Fighter 5 come to the US as well.
This weekend, I'll be playing Tecmo's Dead or Alive Xtreme 2. Though I admit I'm a bit hesitant to get the game in my country--the Xbox is extremely expensive in the US--I've never felt so compelled to purchase a system, let alone buy one. Since it's quite the niche and this one is no exception, I'm hoping to get my hands on a system. In the meantime, I'm sure I'll also be playing upcoming games like ZOE: For Answer. This game is really cool and I've been craving a bit more from the series. It's a must have for me!
For the record, I've been having a good time with Xtreme 2, so I'm eager to dive back into the original. The storyline is the star of the show, and I really enjoyed the game's story. It's a little barebones, but it's still not a bad game by any means. The Xtreme 2's gameplay is basically the same as the original. You use the control sticks to aim your craft using the stylus and tap on a target to unleash various kinds of attacks. The D pad moves your craft and the face buttons are used to attack. However, unlike the original Xtreme 2, the gameplay is all the same. That means that in addition to the new features, you can also alter the visuals. The game still has the graphical aspects of old, but it's a step up from the original and offers up a much more complete package. The graphics are pretty solid for the PSP, and the soundtrack is a much better fit.
I've been playing with the demo version of Xtreme 2 and am really enjoying it. Not only does the music have a pretty humorous tone, but the action and graphics are pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a PSP game. The weapons and power-ups and variety are extremely fun to pull off, and the mission types feel pretty well suited to the handheld, as well.
The game offers two modes, Battle and Random Battle. Battle is a straight run-and-gun mode where you will assume the role of the bounty hunter who will kill everyone who gets in his way. Random Battle is where you fight to save the galaxy from destruction by performing precise rolls.
