Happy Feet

A splendid game, Happy Feet received a very strong reception upon its release. Featuring nothing more than nimble, long-limbed, gnarly, baby penguins, a vibrant, bright world filled with beaches and a number of relaxing little minigames, Happy Feet features some great ideas that really deliver the humour and gameplay that it needs to succeed. However, a gameplay mechanic that's always been there and often failed to grow up has been left in the past. Since it was originally a work-in-progress, this meant that the game's main developer had to start somewhere.

Happy Feet

Your character is sent to an island filled with penguins. But the land's future is in trouble as the inhabitants of the island begin to react to the current situation, with the world already fractured and your people failing to get any more stuff done. To find out why this happens, you must brave and attempt to rescue the land.

Happy Feet will feature a wide range of stylized characters and fully animated cut scenes. Each of the levels features the core gameplay mechanics of the main series, such as collecting bugs and finding hidden items, but the variety of characters and humor is what sets the game apart. The voice acting is top-notch and features Peter Venkman (the voice actor for the entire cast) and Michael Madsen (the voice of Riggs from the first two Twisted Metal games) as well as Robert Downey Jr. (The Rock from Double D XXL). In addition, a number of humorous new features will be included, such as the ability to fly through the air, increase your speed and gain a boost in the air, or perform a roundhouse kick. You'll also be able to play as four different original characters: Rayman, Proto Man, King Hippo, and King Kong.

Rayman Origins will also sport an impressive graphical presentation. While the first game was made in 720p, this is where the actual game will run at full 1080p. It's a major graphical upgrade and marks a big jump from the previous games. Rayman Origins sports more detailed character models, more realistic animation, and a greater level of detail.

The game will also sport more varied levels than the previous games in the series. The game's levels will feature environmental hazards such as volcanoes, volcanoes, and even the moon. The result is more interesting and more challenging gameplay. For example, you'll have to avoid poisonous areas while trying to find a way to take out one of your enemy's hidden cohorts. These obstacles will also change with the changing levels and enemies. For example, some of the foes you'll be battling in will have their own unique behaviors, such as requiring you to have the ground pound for it to be destroyed, or shooting a fire-spewing projectile that will cause you to fall to your death. Rayman Origins will also have some interesting new features, such as puzzle-solving that will require you to find key items and items to progress.

The game's 3D engine, dubbed the "shadow" technology, will also allow you to see distant things. We had a chance to see a level with an abandoned train and see the development team's desire to take advantage of 3D on a handheld platform. The 3D effect works well in certain situations, but it never makes it feel like you're looking at something. When we say it's more than a pipe or ceiling effect, the effect doesn't seem to be as effective, but it does make the whole game more atmospheric, which is always nice.

You'll be able to play as Rayman or Globox in Rayman Origins, and you'll also have the option of controlling Rayman or Globox in 2D. The pair will bounce off walls and fling themselves out of the way when required. In some cases, if you look closely enough, you can see what the two characters are capable of. The ball physics seem fairly sharp and really adds a bit of flair to the game.

At the beginning of Rayman Origins, you'll be introduced to a few different characters and their abilities, but it doesn't take long before you'll quickly pick up your feet and begin to see what's different. There are several types of levels, each with its own unique abilities and enemies. One level we tried was called Box Valley, and the one in which Globox falls into a portal is the basis for the levels in the game.

There are some more than just levels that follow Rayman and Globox in their quest to rescue their respective princess. There are still tons of power-ups for Globox to collect and get in his way, but you'll have to fight to get them. While some stages actually require a good amount of strategy, there are quite a few boss battles that require some careful movement. For instance, in one of the later levels, you have to make a contraption that will swing Globox from side to side, and the problem is, it's not easy to get it done.
