Half-Life: Source
Half-Life: Source, the new sci-fi first-person shooter from Valve Software and Raven Software, is scheduled to hit store shelves on October 26. Developed by Valve Software's Seattle studio, the game is one of three titles set to appear on shelves by the end of the year.
The game is based on Valve's popular Half-Life, which first appeared on the PC in 1997. Set in a virtual world, Half-Life: Source will be a single-player first-person shooter developed by Raven Software, the studio behind games like Half-Life: Counter-Strike and Raven Software's Privateer. Players assume the role of Gordon Freeman, the quintessential quippy scientist, but while he's investigating the fate of the universe, he'll have to get to grips with the threats that are on the run from extraterrestrials.
The game's new multiplayer modes are being developed exclusively for Half-Life: Source, but Raven is already planning some other content for the game that has yet to be announced. Among other things, the game will include 20 single-player missions, though Raven has yet to provide specific details on what these missions will entail.
As far as Half-Life: Source is concerned, Raven Software is already hard at work on the new and improved Counter-Strike multiplayer mode, which is currently scheduled to ship for the PC sometime this year. In the version we played, we could see all kinds of new features. For instance, there will be an objective-based matchmaking system. If you don't have a friends list, you won't be able to jump in and out at the same time, though you'll be able to find them in a server-based list system.
A new weapon is also being developed that sounds quite unusual, as well as a few other new features. There's a tweaked grenade, which has been converted into a secondary weapon by Raven. We saw it in action at QuakeCon, and the developers claim that it will feel a lot like a silencer. In fact, this weapon appears to be more in line with what the custom frag grenade does in Half-Life. In the game, there are a lot of fun surprises in the way grenades bounce off walls and into other players' bodies, which is a new twist for Quake.
Beyond the weapon changes, Raven has promised some new modes. These include the familiar deathmatch and team deathmatch modes. All of these modes are a part of the game's new game, which, according to Raven, will go on sale this holiday season.
Although you'll have access to 12 single-player levels in the single-player game, Raven has also built in the multiplayer options. As a result, it's making good use of the online features. A new weapon is being added, called the minigun, which is one of the new weapons that is being added to the game. The minigun is a high-powered shotgun that is fully automatic. The minigun is armed with the rocket launcher that Raven demonstrated on stage, but there's a catch. The minigun is actually the weapon that Raven plans to put in the game's new Havoc mode, which is in its current state. When fired, the minigun explodes on impact and knocks enemies flying through the air. The mode is very chaotic, and the team that scores the most kills wins.
The Havoc mode in Warzone is also adding some new multiplayer gameplay options, such as the "scare" kill type. You'll find a new mode called "Scare" that can be used to watch a preset game of a game. In Scare, you can watch a player taking out a hostile player, a group of enemy players, and an entire squad of enemy players. But the kill type is only for a certain period of time. In Scare, the team that scores the most kills wins. The team that scores the most kills wins. In Scare, the team that scores the most kills wins.
Another interesting new multiplayer mode in Warzone is the "capture" kill type. This mode is in its current state, but it is in its current state. The goal of Capture is to capture three zones, capture all eight, and accumulate as many points as possible. The team that scores the most kills wins. The objective of capture is to kill all the other team members, all while staying alive. The catch is that if you're not careful, you can be the first to capture the center and keep your timer running at all times. Of course, the objective of the capture is the only way to stay alive, and players will have to work together to survive.
Warzone features 100 player vehicles, but more importantly, they are used for different purposes. For example, if someone is just running around a large-scale map with their vehicles, you can use the Battlefield 4 transportation system to transport to that area.
