Globetrotter 2
Globetrotter 2, is billed as a sequel to the original, which came out on the Nintendo Game Boy Advance in 2003. Now developer OLM and publisher FinBlade are taking the series back to a third-person action game. As if the original formula wasn't enough, Globetrotter 2 will also be quite a departure from its predecessor. Rather than a stealth-based action game, Globetrotter 2 will be a first-person shooter with no hidden goals.
Globetrotter 2 will take place in the 20th century, and it will feature 25 levels. The game's plot is ambiguous--the player assumes the role of "Globetrotter," a girl with the ability to move freely in the air. The player's goal is to free the Globetrotter. Players will control Globetrotter, as she is guided through space and becomes the pilot of the next Globetrotter. Players will also be able to travel between levels and dimensions. Globetrotter 2's graphics are coming in "coming soon," and the game will use the Unreal engine, which is being used to power Globetrotter 2.
"We've actually been using Unreal technology for several years now," explained Namco Bandai's Carlson Choi. "But we've never been able to show the game to the public and let it slip past the censors."
The original Globetrotter, released in the arcades in 1985, featured both the Globetrotter and Globetrotter stages, but in addition to featuring several familiar enemies, the new Globetrotter also has a slightly different appearance to the previous Globetrotter. The Globetrotter has black eyes, but the Globetrotter is actually in fact white. Choi states that the change in colour affects Globetrotter 2 in a few ways, including the fact that the enemy makes its appearance that much more menacing.
The Globetrotter also has a second function in Globetrotter 2, albeit completely different than its original counterpart. In the original Globetrotter stage, Globetrotters would use an overhead cannon attack to turn the stage into a run-and-gun-style shooter. During the stage, Globetrotter II is more like a blue variation of the Globetrotter and does not change its appearance in any way.
The new Globetrotter retains all of its original characteristics but comes in three variants. The first has its red body replaced with a blue shell. The second one is similar to the original Globetrotter but loses its red frame and a greenish color. The final version, however, is different, and contains a blue shell instead of the original one. The fourth Globetrotter has an even greater feature in its new appearance.
The third and final variant is more of a straight-up shooting gallery, with the default Globetrotter possessing a dual-sniper shot and the missile launcher. The fourth iteration of Globetrotter takes the central pillar of its body replaced with a white shell, and swaps it for an orange one. The final version of the Globetrotter operates much like the original Globetrotter, replacing it with a black shell.
The final version of the Globetrotter maintains the same controls and specs as the original Globetrotter, but swaps the Globetrotter's four different positions with a black one. While the red version doesn't change much, it replaces the first two gyroscopic aiming gyroscopic aiming gyroscopic sensors, replacing them with a more traditional aiming gyroscope. The third version of the Globetrotter is significantly more powerful, equipped with twice as much kinetic energy as the original, and uses a flashlight to sense enemies. However, the most striking difference between the Globetrotter and its successor is that the Globetrotter lacks a directional screen, but does a decent job of tracking enemies and aiming when the screen is dim.
Unlike the original Globetrotter, the Globetrotter's face button still functions like the original. However, the Globetrotter also has a longer trigger period, which makes the Globetrotter a far better choice for fighting, combat, or stealth. There's also a high degree of customization, allowing the Globetrotter to be upgraded with abilities ranging from changing the character's skin color, changing the environment on-screen, and even replacing the Aim Attack.
Despite the limitations of the original Globetrotter, one of its strongest characteristics is its ability to throw objects at opponents. Globetrotters can throw things at the player from both the first and the second-person perspective, and they have an excellent range of movement and will even survive a lengthy rest.
