Europa 1400 Gold Edition will be released in the US next month. The GameSpot UK readers will get a preview of the first expansion pack, Gods & Kings, in a hands-on of the game on August 30. We recently took the liberty of clearing a few sections of the game, most of which are playable to members of the press. In addition, to fans of the Civilization and Crusader franchises, the pack will also include a multiplayer mode that will support up to four players via LAN or Internet.

As you'd expect, this will be a mod of sorts that won't have any gameplay benefits. "This pack adds quite a lot of new units to the multiplayer and naval combat portions of the game," says Jan Willembeards, the president of Paradox Development Studio. "We're going to release the DLC by the end of this year."
