Deadly Dozen Pacific Theater

Deadly Dozen Pacific Theater may not have had the most notable critical reception when it first shipped for the PlayStation, but it's currently not on the way to the Xbox, which will certainly ship as a stand-alone game in early 2001.

The game was developed by Activision, the studio that created the original Contra, and it will be the first North American installment in the franchise. Several screenshots and gameplay details were released at the time of the announcement, but we're not sure that everything has been expanded upon from the original. The graphics are pretty solid, and there's a nice mixture of 2D and 3D characters.
