Chaos Legion, one of many upcoming online games from Electronic Arts and NetDevil, is looking quite impressive at this early stage of development. At this point, a representative of the game is apparently still tweaking and polishing to make the final version stand out from the crowds of other online games. The developers did note that the game is being prepared for an early alpha test, and they are still aiming for an early release next year.

Chaos Legion

Chaos Legion is a sci-fi-themed online game in which players can create their own hero of choice. Players can take on the role of one of four races, or a combination of three. Players can customize their character's appearance by choosing a race, allegiance, and special powers. Heroes can also take on quests and have their own quests, making the multiplayer game more suitable for players of all ages.

The company is currently developing an online version of its multiplayer online game, Wombat and Mythic Entertainment's upcoming action game, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Fans of the game can expect to see a beta test in late June.

We recently visited Mythic's San Diego offices to speak with the development team about the online game.

GameSpot: We understand that the game is in early development. Why the early stages of development?

Chaos Legion is an upcoming MMORPG. We understand that the developers have learned that the game needs a lot of testing before they can be truly perfected. What's the team's goals?

Chaos Legion will be available at the end of 2003.

The game is still under development and is being tested with a bit of polish. We're not really sure how the final release will turn out. In fact, the company is still working to optimize the game for the next generation of consoles and the PC. That said, we are definitely aiming for a 20-year life cycle. We are also working on some technical features for the Xbox and the GameCube, so we are focusing on delivering the maximum quality of the game at the end of the life cycle.

GS: Will the game be able to play online with multiple characters?

SB: The single-player campaign will be offline and offline, but the second-to-second multiplayer will be playable. The fact that the game will support up to four players online with up to four players online is probably the most exciting feature for us. We are also planning to implement a LAN feature as well, but it is not yet known how this will work.

GS: What games have influenced what we see in the Xbox and PlayStation 2?

SB: We have a lot of experience with PC games, but I think the PC market has more unique characters and lots of games that are more specifically tailored to PCs. We are not just making ports of PC games, but of console games as well.

GS: How are you guys planning to ship this game to Xbox owners?

SB: It is going to be on both consoles. We are going to launch it in September of 2003, and then the Xbox and PlayStation 2 launch in November. We are going to be taking full advantage of each console's strengths and bringing their online capabilities to Xbox in the future.

GS: Has Microsoft and Sony listened to your requests to let you know about any plans to bring the PS2 Online game to the PS2?

SB: We have been doing research and consulting on this subject. It is hard to comment, but I can tell you that it's a big move. We are an open company, and Sony has a big role to play. They are an awesome company, and we have always liked to work with Sony, so we will do our best to ensure that this title goes to Xbox.

GS: How have you managed to take advantage of Microsoft's support for the Xbox?

SB: We have been very much in touch with Microsoft over the past few months. We are very proud to have been on our Xbox team, and we have always liked to take advantage of their power. The whole E3 demonstration was very good, and there were a number of Xbox games that we discussed with you. The biggest one that came out with our plan is called Unreal Championship. For this title we have the ability to develop for all the different platforms.

GS: What are the different versions of Unreal Championship available in the US and Europe?

SB: Unreal Championship is one of the largest cross-platform titles that has been available on Microsoft platforms in Europe. The gameplay style, graphics, and graphics are all very similar to that of Quake III. We have also expanded our production pipeline, which includes about 30 titles. We have had 300 titles available for distribution on Microsoft platforms since Unreal Tournament. We have taken full advantage of the Xbox's broadband capabilities and are happy to take advantage of the Xbox's capabilities.

GS: What has the Xbox made you the most technologically challenged platform to date?
