Archangel
Archangel is currently on track to hit cinemas in June, with director David Mamarick going on to helm the screen-adaptation.
When Michael Connelly was working on the movie at around the time of the original, he had a bigger vision for the project – a classic – than he's ever gone before.
The film's title may sound vaguely familiar, but the premise is all about the same: a boy and his dog are trapped on a parallel world. There's just one problem: the dog has a dark secret, and the dog is the host, and they have to be brought in for the dog.
But the film is going to be a lot more funny and bonkers than the original, and if that sounds intriguing, you can find out what I mean.
The film is being shot in Amsterdam and set in New York, with the filmmaker promising to shoot it in New York, although whether we'll see it through the stars or in cinemas is a matter of "when".
The cast is already set to feature in the film, with Raouli and Beanie Feldstein taking the lead roles, as well as Helena Bonham Carter, the mother of the dog. There's also an unknown, unknown John Travolta, as well as the already announced cast.
The trailer for the film, which has been revealed during The Rock's appearance on his Netflix presentation during this year's Brazil Cinema Expo, is extremely impressive, showing the many ways that the world of cinema has changed over the years.
The theme of time travel is being kept rather mysterious in this new version of the movie, but there are some serious nods to the golden age of cinema, particularly around the time the Golden Age of comics was written.
The trailer also shows what appears to be a spaceship, which is intriguingly separate from the others of the year, though it's unclear how much of this world will have been changed or altered.
The trailer also shows that King Triton and more famous Steven Grant will be making appearances. The former will be seen in the form of Michael Shanks, while Grant will be seen in the form of David Dunn, while the latter will be seen playing Richard Roe.
While The Rock hasn't confirmed a UK release date for the movie yet, based on what we've seen so far it seems safe to say that it will arrive in cinemas in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The movie is a prequel to 2017's The Rock's 1971 classic Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, which sees them teaming up with (naturally) famous musicians and dancers in an attempt to save the world.
As with The Rock, this movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and, like its predecessor, will be produced by screenwriter Will Dunn. This was first announced in July 2021, but has since gone quiet.
Meanwhile, The Rock has stated that his next movie will also be produced by Atomic Blonde director Ryan Coogler. Coogler previously made 2018's Steve Jobs, which follows the journey of Mac with his wife, Amy (Rachel McAdams), a lawyer for the Department of Defense in Iraq.
As the movie is due to release in summer 2022, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for more official word on The Rock's next project.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer director Steven Spielberg is helming the sequel to 2014's British comedy hit, The Goonies.
Confirming the news, we know that Spielberg will not be helming the sequel, but will instead develop and develop it as a sequel to the film. Given the secrecy surrounding the sequel, we could be in for a fair bit of a wait, especially given that it has been in development for a number of years.
Announced in December 2021, The Goonies sequel is now expected to be directed by Steven Spielberg, who has also helmed the acclaimed thriller Night At The Museum, as well as 2014's Don't Look Up and 2018's Reel.
Expected release date: Summer 2022
A follow-up to Don't Look Up is set to arrive on March 24, 2022. The untitled sequel will follow the gang as they try to navigate their school life in the cold winter months.
