Aliens vs Predator 2
Aliens vs Predator 2, the sequel to Gearbox Software's Aliens vs Predator, is set for release this summer on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox.
The sequel features new abilities, such as nanometer and acid-based weapons, that gamers can use to fight alongside the Xenomorphs or hunt them in all-new "Jobs" mode. Players can select the same four aliens to play as, each of which is new and completely different. Each of the new characters will have its own strengths and weaknesses. While players can only choose from two species at a time, you'll be able to customize all of your characters' attributes, and you'll have access to all the abilities, including enhanced senses, a few extra weapons, and more.
Aliens vs Predator 2 will feature more than 100 levels, and the sequel will also be packed with more than 30 alien species and 20 environments. The team is also adding a slew of new features, such as the option for players to cut their teeth on alien models, as well as an updated interface, which will be the most enjoyable to use in the game. Players will be able to use the game's new light and dark flashlight mode to highlight enemies and their surroundings. Additionally, Aliens vs Predator 2 will feature multiplayer support for up to four players.
Control in the game is pretty solid. Though it's still a touch difficult to get used to, it seems to work very well for a third-person action game. The PC version is similar to the PS2 version, which features all the standard buttons for attacking, using items, and using items. The game features full support for both the keyboard and the PlayStation 2 controller, which should make it easier to take out enemies in the game.
Graphically, Aliens vs. Predator 2 is solid but unremarkable. The game uses a solid, albeit early, look, although it doesn't seem to offer much in the way of graphical polish. The various environments offer a bit of variety, thanks to the large number of enemies and the amount of polygonal characters in the game. The game also features an interesting character model that features solid animation. The PC version uses basic facial animations, which makes your character feel like you're watching the movie.
Audio in the game has been tightened up considerably, although it still feels a little repetitive. There are a good number of effects in the game, including explosions, fire, and shrieks. The game's soundtrack consists of some great tracks, as well as some well-produced and recognizable tunes. The game features a mix of standard and modern tunes.
The PC version of Aliens vs. Predator 2 was an impressive debut for the franchise, with solid combat and a strong storyline. The game featured a fairly solid single-player game and some excellent level design, though a bit lackluster multiplayer support let it down slightly. The PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions are expected in Q4 2003, but we don't expect to see the same amount of online content for these versions until Q3 2003. Hopefully, we'll see an additional 60 frames per second in the final version of the game, especially since both versions are being developed by Rebellion.
Review Excerpt See screenshots of Aliens vs. Predator 2 "There's nothing quite like blasting through a jungle in the jungle, blasting off headfirst into the distance, and never truly realizing the splendor of your surroundings. With the PSP version of Aliens vs. Predator 2, we are certainly looking to cash in on that distinct stealth-action experience. The game's arsenal of weapons, from the humble X-ray to the ever-present guided rocket launcher, are all worthy of mention in Aliens vs. Predator 2, and it all comes together to make a stunningly visceral experience. In addition, the game features a good-looking sense of scale--from the realistically designed jungle to the sleek, hulking robots that prowl all over the place.
At a glance, Aliens vs. Predator 2 appears to resemble any good-looking stealth game. And as such, it doesn't look like there's any hiding place or other hiding place. Instead, it leans toward a more-arcade feel. While the game doesn't attempt to be any more tactical than the others, it seems that the clever approach to weapon control is still going to be a key aspect of your success. You'll be able to find a host of different weapons and gadgets in the game, such as stun guns, proximity mines, and even the lowly proximity mines. But you'll also have the option of finding and firing a variety of different weapons with which to sneak past the enemies, including an EM-2 sniper rifle, a long-range weapon, and an assault rifle. This is quite a bit of variety, and it will be worth sticking with if you want to take on the game's 20 missions.
You'll also be able to select from a wide variety of other weapons, such as a grenade launcher, an assault rifle, a shotgun, and a night-vision scope.
