Red Risk
Red Risk is the best strategy game ever released. Red Risk was developed by Hypnotix, and it has a lot to offer.
Although it isn't considered as a stand-alone game, the game does offer a very unique strategic experience.
Red Risk is a fast-paced third-person strategy game based around a war between forces of world-trotting
colonies and their owners, one of which you've already heard of: the
capital ships.
Red Risk also has a similar theme, but it is a rather different
game than the earlier RTS games. The game is all about the careful planning of
fleet formations, and once you manage your fleets, your hard work will
pay off.
For the most part, it's all about exploiting territory on the map,
not killing anyone. The game's interestingly big strategic element
is the ability to research new technologies in each and every battle, so
it's a rather unique little addition.
"The strategic elements of the game are very well received, and they
are always adding to the richness of the battle", says game director
Matthew Chapman. "Multiplayer is not merely a fun part of the game -
it's also an essential part of the game."
"You can have a really long conversation with the other players - with
another player they'll be one of the characters who can help you with the
game's combat, so you can have them in the game, and another player
can help you with the fight to take out the opponent."
"Multiplayer should be an integral part of the gameplay experience for a
long time to come - especially with the advent of massively multiplayer
games. We're building a big presence in the game," he added.
Whether he'll have more than just multiplayer hangouts on his own
in the future remains to be seen.
During a recent press event at Game Convention, LucasArts' Greg
Wadlow responded to comments by promising "interactions"
between two characters. The more players in the player's party, the
more he would like. "All of the playable characters and more than one
screen could be saved", he said, revealing that if a game can reach
30,000 players before it can be finished, he'd like
"a full-scale multiplayer component".
"We'd like to see more than one player in a single-player
scenario, or eight players in one large multiplayer campaign,
with the possibility of multiplayer games, when the time comes," he
added.
"We'd like to see a bit more of a challenge than with the
multiplayer mode."
Expect some more details on this over the coming months, and with so many
cool ideas already and this one we wouldn't be surprised
to see a sequel.
