Professional Farmer 2017, a very accurate and fairly accurate football simulator from Proteus Games, has just had its launch trailer shown at the PC Gaming Show. The game is in development for PC, Mac, PS4, and Xbox One, and is looking to offer an authentic sim experience to fans of the series.

We sat down with Proteus Games to talk about the game, the ins and outs of its community, and have already talked to the team behind the game, which consists of several former Proteus staff members, developers, and professional managers.

GameSpot: Why do you think Proteus Games is one of the best indie developers around?

Proteus Games: I think the best way for us to be honest about our achievements is the way we look at our achievements. We look at what we achieved, and what we can improve in future. We have a really solid gameplay team with a few super talented people at the studio. We want to bring something unique to our games, and that helps us make a game that we can grow into.

I think the great thing about our achievements is that we are extremely focused on bringing something that was already built in. We look at how you can improve with each game and build on it. We want to be doing this for many reasons.

I think the best way to be honest about our achievements is by listening to the gamers. We want to be able to improve with each game and create a game that is more memorable than others. To me it's a game I could be most proud of. The gamer will have a really great time playing it. That's what I want to bring to my gaming tastes, and that's what I want to bring to my game.

Like I said, we're all trying to bring something new to our games, and that's what we're focused on today.

[laughs]

So is the extra time for the extra time allowed for more development time?

[Laughs] Yeah. I think it's actually more about giving the gamer something that they can enjoy more. It's a game that's a real game. That's what we wanted to give to our players and say, "Oh my god, the amount of time you've got spent playing this game over and over again will help to bring it to you more so that you feel like you're playing a great game instead of a mediocre game." We've made the goal of making it so that we can give gamers a real game that they can enjoy more than once. So the extra time for those types of games is not a negative thing, it's something that helps people who might not be interested in what they've seen.

Is it something that we plan on developing on our mobile devices in the future?

I think it would be cool to see this be something that people can enjoy more than once. I don't think we're necessarily doing that at all. I mean, it's just something that we plan on bringing out next year. It's one of those things that I think you can hope for.

Can you explain the development process?

I know there was a mobile game that was released, but I've never really been involved in that game before, so I think it was a really cool game for us to just get it out of the way. We knew we were going to be working on it before. But we never really knew when we were going to release. So I don't think we really had a lot of time to think about when it would come out, but we probably did, at least for a little bit longer. So the story will remain the same for sure.

Have you worked on this game before?

Yes, yes. There's an alternate universe. So, our way of putting it, I mean, the timeline that you're seeing in the first game doesn't mean that you'll be playing a prequel, but you're not playing that prequel either. That's a separate thing, as much as we wanted to give players something that they could really enjoy, and it doesn't mean you'll be playing the prequel again.

How do you see the story? What kind of gameplay are you really looking to deliver with this game?

I think for the story we want to tell, there's a lot of little things that we want to keep from the very beginning of the game. I think we've found the three main parts of the story that were all very important to the plot of the game, so we decided to make sure that we follow those three very important parts.
