Poly Bridge
Poly Bridge, the forthcoming action game from indie developer Aardman Animations and Published by Wired, was revealed today by Gamasutra and is coming to PC and mobile phones this summer.
The game is described as a "cinematic spy thriller," with an original story penned by Stephen A. Stallock, an old school buddy who has crashed the San Francisco International Airport and received an important message from a mysterious figure in his care. He has a few more missions on the way, with you controlling a pair of slow-moving characters as they pull together a complicated plot.
Poly Bridge features 70 levels, 30 bosses, 60 interactive backgrounds, and a unique system for guiding the player's character to objectives, looking for clues, and placing switches to manipulate the environment. This system should hopefully add a new layer of depth to the game's gameplay.
Poly Bridge is expected to release in summer 2012 for both iOS and Android platforms. Gamasutra states that Aardman and Stallock have "final say" on the game, but the original story goes on to suggest that it's coming this year.
Former-Blizzard producer Greg Canessa left Blizzard in January of last year to form a new company, Sun Games. The firm's current project, an all-new IP called 'Forgotten Realms,' is a turn-based strategy game, developed by the creators of Neverwinter Nights.
Sun Games has gone through some tumultuous ups and downs, with the studio's previous founders Jason Holtman and Jason Holtman leaving in July, and the departure of two developers: Allan Blum and Michael Capps. The duo went on to leave Blizzard in September 2013, leaving Scott Brown as the head of publishing.
Firefly Studios has just begun development on a new game, Firefly's upcoming action adventure game, A West Side Story.
Another title currently in development is Bound by Flame, a fantasy action-adventure from Sun Games. The game is based on a novel by William Eric Brooks, written by Mitch Dyer, who also wrote The Bear and the Bandits and Barry Jenkins.
Sun Games has also announced a new Xbox Live Arcade title, simply titled 'Fantastic Games'. This game was revealed at last year's X019, where fans got a first look at the recently announced Halo Infinite.
In addition to Microsoft's announcement of the next generation of console hardware, it has also revealed that the much-awaited sequel to Alan Wake will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. The game's reveal trailer showed a world full of otherworldly creatures and inhabitants, including an alien source.
Suffice to say, many of these games have been in development for years, as Alan Wake 2 is expected to be released sometime in 2022. However, there are a few more details to be confirmed, such as a rumored appearance of a new cast member.
While initially only mentioned, The Callisto Protocol is the next title in Striking Distance Studios' survival horror series, releasing in 2022 on PC and next-gen consoles. The Callisto Protocol was first teased last year during the Summer Game Fest, where it was revealed that the game will take place in a prison colony ravaged by the Black Iron Prison.
There is some mystery surrounding The Callisto Protocol, however, with the game not having a traditional publisher. In addition, Striking Distance Studios' co-founder, Glen Schofield, stated in 2020 that Striking Distance Studios was not "exploring other forms of media" for The Callisto Protocol, though he did confirm that "it's a survival horror game." This was all before the game was even released, and it seems like The Callisto Protocol is now a survival horror game as well.
Back in February, leaker AccountNGT posted an image from a survey sent to them by Striking Distance Studios. The survey reportedly claimed that Striking Distance Studios was indeed working on a horror game, though that has not happened since. There has been no official word from either company on this front, and it's unlikely that The Callisto Protocol's developer will make an appearance in the game anytime soon.
The Callisto Protocol launches on December 2 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.

Callisto Protocol is not the only survival horror game coming this year, though it is one of the few big titles of December. On top of the aforementioned The Callisto Protocol and Resident Evil Village, there are also some major new entries in the Final Fantasy franchise coming this year. Final Fantasy 16 is getting its first official gameplay trailer in December, while Alan Wake Remastered is coming at some point in December. There are also multiple new gameplay presentations coming at the end of the month, and it's clear that it will be a big year for the Final Fantasy franchise.
