Layers of Fear (2016)
Layers of Fear (2016) was quite a hit for developer Bloober Team. The psychological horror game has gone down as one of the most critically acclaimed horror games in recent memory, and one of its many successes is the game's willingness to incorporate fear. Though the game doesn't have the typical jump scares like Silent Hill, there is no denying that Layers of Fear is one of the most memorable games of 2016.
As with any horror game, the protagonist's mental state is usually pretty gruesome, and while the protagonist doesn't have a particularly powerful fear that can't be heightened, the terrifying and surreal scenes are sure to leave an impression. While the game certainly didn't have the scariest scares, the excellent horror atmosphere and the constant sense of dread that comes from being trapped in an abandoned house or prison cell give the player a lot of hope.

While Layers of Fear didn't exactly do anything revolutionary with its horror elements, it did try something new with its gameplay. Though it wasn't groundbreaking by any means, the gameplay that was executed well gave players enough tools to explore a horror environment that is extremely immersive.
Outlast's gameplay is so creative and creative that it makes many players feel like they're truly playing as a demented individual. The setting and story of the game, coupled with the number of zombies and terrifying enemies that players encounter, make Outlast so memorable and really make the game one of the most memorable horror experiences of all time.
While the popularity of Dead Space remains strong with players, the original Dead Space was a lot more niche. The fact that it was able to survive on a much larger scale compared to other titles of its generation has cemented its place as a fan favorite, and for good reason.
Dead Space isn't just one of the best horror games ever made, but one of the best-looking too. The necromorphs in Dead Space weren't just horrific in appearance, but also in terms of their actions and reactions to the player character. Dead Space's necromorphs are persistent and persistent, so even if players see a silent kill, it will still be considered for the sake of the game's art style.
Metro Exodus is a sequel to 2010's Metro 2033, and is set some years after the events of that game. Metro Exodus is set four years after the events of Metro 2033, and players follow Artyom as he searches for a group of survivors. Artyom's efforts to find survivors is quickly derailed by his inability to communicate with the people he has killed. Artyom eventually catches up with his group, resulting in the discovery of the Armitage, an all-powerful artifact that gives him special abilities like telekinesis and is capable of shapeshifting, a powerful form of telekinesis. Artyom is constantly scarring from the events that take place in Metro Exodus, though it is unclear if the hallucinations have had a big impact on his behavior in the second game.
Metro Exodus has some dark, disturbing imagery to go along with its striking art style. However, Metro Exodus doesn't shy away from disturbing imagery, especially when players have to deal with some rather disturbing creatures like the monster, or when one realizes that Artyom is actually blind. Artyom is sometimes seen to look like a monster, or even run in fear when he senses a human being, which is an impressive feat.
Some monsters may not like the way that Metro Exodus works, but it still has some disturbing imagery to go along with it. The encounter with a large mutant creature is intense, with one in particular standing out as the most horrific. Anyone that played Metro: Last Light will remember seeing it disturbing at times, which is why it was especially scary when fans discovered that the creature is actually the bigger baddie that they encountered in the first game.
Something as intense and scary as the Mothergunship is the massive artillery of the Megacorp. This giant destroyer can be seen beating the crap out of large zombies with a perfectly timed explosion, which is especially terrifying when the Megacorp is watching as Artyom's son gets blown up by it. It's also quite hard to believe that Artyom is actually killing people, and that he has no gas mask, meaning that this giant monster is absolutely massive and can kill the player in a single hit.
Mothergunship is a location in Metro Exodus that is extremely challenging. Players will find themselves needing to destroy two armor generators, with a large blast radius adding to their damage, but they can only destroy the generators when they're in the air or in the ocean, and they can only do so from the Megacorp's tail, meaning that they will need to move carefully to avoid getting hit.
