Californium has announced that its KYRO, the joint-venture product developed by Foundry Corp., has been awarded the title of Electronic Arts' publisher of the videogame industry's worst-selling PC game of all time.

Inventor Gadget's game was the second-best seller for the second quarter of 1998, with only 25 percent of all UK console software sales in 1999. The company's PC games and software sold for $35.2 million. A number of other products have been released in the quarter including Pong, Impressions' Star Battalion, Game Genie, and Ready at Dawn's Spec Ops II.

Foundry is currently at work on "BioWare's anticipated Mass Effect, a sci-fi action-adventure game set in the fantasy universe of a huge war against an alien race. BioWare also releases a role-playing game set in the Star Trek universe, which includes MMORPG, superhero, and action game-style games, developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts.

In the fourth quarter of 1999, Maxis' SimCity 3000 won the top prize, with 4 million copies sold and 4 million units shipped. The Sims 2 also lost a number of units. The Sims Deluxe (2002) finished at number six in the PC game software chart, followed by Star Wars Galaxies: Shadows of Luclin (2006) and its expansion pack, Star Wars: The Old Republic. The Sims Deluxe (2000) finished at number 10 in the PC game software chart. The Sims: Unleashed (2005) finished at number nine in the PC game software charts, followed by the upcoming The Sims 3 (2009).

The year began with sales for the year, but was otherwise much weaker than the previous year. According to PC Data's figures for the April-June period, total US PC game sales for the year were $1.87 billion. It is important to note that PC hardware sales fell sharply in June, with console hardware sales down year-over-year, down 23 percent from May-September. In the past year, the PC game market has dropped from $432 million to $415 million, according to research firm NPD.

Here is the top five software charts for the month of May-June:
